    Hi everyone,

I'm just about done with my BS from ESC and I'd like to get my Masters. I got my BS in BME, but I really love Accounting (I've been working under a CPA in NYS for years). I'm not sure where to go from here, and I have a small issue.

I do have a generalized anxiety disorder and I cannot set foot in a classroom - and especially not in a Test Room. I've had this since I was a kid, I went to special schools and everything, though my GPA has always been 3.7-3.9, even undergrad.

The GMAT is out of the question for me, but I don't really want to shell out tons of cash to have a degree that will not be recognized. Because of this, I don't expect myself to be able to sit for the CPA Exam when done, but it would be nice to keep the option open just in case something does change.

I have looked into my options for taking the GMAT with special accommodations, but I really don't think it's going to be at all possible.

I am most concerned with curriculum and accreditation, even if it's not enough for NYSSCPA.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks a bunch.

If you don't intend to sit for the CPA exam, I wouldn't worry about pursuing an MS in Accountancy. Almost all MS in Accountancy programs are designed to prepare you for licensure as a CPA or CMA, so you would probably be served better in an MBA program with an accounting emphasis. This would provide a sufficient background for managerial accounting or general management.

    Recommendation.

If you're taking online tests at school and doing well, the GMAT is now offered through prometric or pearson (forget which) testing centers and it's the same general modality as Blackboard. If the anxiety is based on being with other people in the room, schedule a private exam. If it's based on testing itself, nothing I can help you with.

However, should the above nugget help you the below will certainly: UConn MS in Accounting

Arguably the top accounting program in the Northeast, and online. (Yes I know the Harvard and Yale-ites may argue the point, but the ranking is up there.)

BS in BME??? What's a BME?

Precisely why do you want to earn an accounting degree? If you are already working for a CPA, will the degree provide an opportunity for promotion or more pay WITHOUT the CPA exam? Are you planning on changing jobs?

    Please advise.

Hi, sorry, thanks for the reply.

BS BME - Bachelors of Science in Business Management and Economics.

I am looking to continue education because, although I'm working directly under a CPA who is also the CFO of the company, my husband and I want to start our own business. My role would definitely eb the financial end of it, and I'd like to feel confident about doing taxes and basically, knowing what I'm doing without the guidance.

I have plenty of job security - the CFO is not planning to let me go until they retire in about 10 years, so I know I am going to get in a lot more experience until then. I want to make sure that I am prepared when the time does come.

    Thanks!
