I'd like to do some further study but need to decide where I'd like to do it. What do you think about distance learning? Does it defeat the purpose somewhat by preventing spontaneous discussions or can it be more beneficial.

Well, some people cannot learn without face to face with the instructors. The classroom lectures give more attention by the lecturer as well as networking. Besides, more debating or discussion in classroom versus distance learning. The only discussion via distance learning is posting discussion in the Blackboard or portal.

Distance learning is great in flexibilities; in contrast it lacks of networking and seeing your instructor. If you have a chance to attend on campus, I highly recommend it. Otherwise distance learning is fine, you just don't want to waste your time if you intend to go for another level of higher education.

Here is a comparison between Inside Classroom & Distance Learning:

In Classroom: :aargh4: (your action accounts)
Distance Learning: :Flush: (your action remains on the other side)

For me the main advantage of classroom learning is that I have the immediate opportunity to ask questions of the instructor. At the same time, I feel that this is overshadowed by the convenience factor, that is, being able to "take the course" whenever I am able during the day/evening.

If You Go To a Brick and Mortar School:

    1. You will never have too much time on your hands.

    2. You will be flattered by the creepy student becoming obsessed with you and following you home every day.

    3. Your car will get plenty of use.

    4. You will never have to be home when the rest of your family is still awake.

    5. Your wallet will be easier to carry around, since it will most often be empty. Your bank statements will be easier to read, since they will most often be blank.

    6. You can earn your degree with the confidence that it will finally make you equally marketable to employers as all of those people who went to school by distance learning. Now THAT is an accomplishment!
