I need a 3 hour Physics class. I don't care who it's through, as long as it's 100% DL. Would prefer independent study or 8 week format, but will settle for a traditional spring term schedule. It needs to be reasonably priced (or incredibly cheap). I am in Texas, if this helps narrow it down. I'm checking with the UT system, but thought it would be great if anyone here had any great ideas.

Also, it needs to not be too heavily based on Calculus. I took advanced high school physics, and loved it, but haven't used Calculus in 10 years, and don't have the time to do any studying that I absolutely don't have to (read: I don't have time to relearn calc so that I can relearn Physics).

    Ideas? Bring 'em on.

BYU Independent Study has a physics courses that looks as though it is just what you need. The other Principles of Physics course (121) is calculus-based, but this one is not:

Wow, that was fast. It looks perfect, except for the proctored exams. I work 60 hours a week, and have a family. The odds of me being able to break loose from my work 6 times for a single class are pretty low. It's definitely on the list, if I can't find anything else though.

    Any other ideas?

By the way, I just noticed, I finally made it to 100 posts. Woohoo!

I do really need some Physics credits with no attendance requirements, though.

If nothing else at all comes up, I can accept a Physical Sciences class. This is a last option, though.

I can't swing a pricey class. Scraping by as it is.
It looks like they are not currently offering either their Physics or Physical Science sections.
I really need to stay away from a lab section if I can get away with it. Next semester is going to be exorbitantly busy as it already is. Thanks for checking!

    Any other ideas?

Do you need a lab component for the course? If not, you could see if your institution accepts credit from the UExcel Physics exam.

If you don't mind startring 7 days late, Ocean County College has physics with lab via dl. I have taken many sciences with them. Do a search for the 10 week quick term. It started on the 12th, but if there is space they will let you in. It's going to be $600.

I'm keeping that as my ace up the sleeve. I'll take it if I have to. However, the grad schools I'm looking at seem to prefer that I actually take the class. Plus, I need to show full-time enrollment for spring term for grant purposes, and would like to do so without just taking an extra class for the hell of it. Then again, prepping for this exam would go a long ways toward prepping me for my teacher content certification exam....hmmmm.....

Globa University has a Phsyics class for 3 or 4 credits (if you want it with lab) at $110 x credit hour

*bump* :yikes:Ok, so this little episode has turned extremely important now. I absolutely must have a Physics/Physical Science class, Spring term (or abbreviated, self-paced, etc.) and now it needs to be upper division. Non-calculus based. And no lab.

I'm not asking for much, am I?

I have seen a class that was Physical Science 33xx that was designed for non-Physics majors that was an examination of the physical world and the laws that govern it, looked from Earth's core to space, examining various phenonema throughout the process. If I could find a class like that, it would be perfect. Unfortunately, my university doesn't have it this semester, and I have to have something comparable to walk in May.

Any other ideas beyond what's already on here?

Upper divsion algebra based physics? I had no idea there was such a thing.

Thanks for the encouragement, cook. :silly: Notice the :yikes: face. I'm not sure if such a thing does exist. But I need it. Badly.

    Are you sstill looking?
I had a thought. Hit all 50 state university catalogs, sometimes I'll find a gem hidden in university of iowa - you might get lucky. Another idea, get clarification. I still don't think there is such a thing as a 3 credit algebra based upper level non-lab physics class- are you sure that's the exact requirement? Who even takes algebra based college physics besides premeds anyway? LOL. Any 3 credit physics class I see is always 100/200 level unless it's some kind of in-major or honors thing, and that would certainly be calc based. (real physics IS calc based after all). Lastly- way back when i first started looking for online sciences, I contacted the Lab Paq people. They are who I get my DL labs from. They were awesome, and sent me an email list of all of their clients (colleges). I don't know if this is standard or if I'm special (no comment) but I used THAT list as a tool to find the science courses I needed. If you ask them for their client list that uses the physics paq, you might get lucky.

also, just a reminder, November 9th is registration for Ocean County College They will enroll for the 12 week 100% online physics 1 class. 4 credits with lab. Used to have a proctor requirement, they removed that this past fall :)
