I have a friend who is looking for an undergrad cert. in forensics in Texas. He had a horrendous experience with distance learning five years ago, so he's against any distance learning, which makes sense given the nature of the forensics. Anything in the Dallas County or Collin County area if possible. Thanks.
I am employed in a forensic laboratory and have participated in the hiring process. This doesn't make me an expert, but it does give me some insight (I hope). What does he/she want the forensic certificate for? IOW, what is the purpose of getting this certificate? Besides a few speciality organizations that offer their own certifications, there is only one certifying group that I am aware of that has general recognition for forensic lab work. Of course forensics can go way beyond the tradtional lab. When reviewing applications, we are looking more at degrees and experience, including internships.
Try Richland College in Dallas. Certificate Programs in Information Security & Information Assurance - Digital Forensics - Networking/Authorized Training - Richland College They teach both DF and IA, and have NSTISSI 4011 certification.
I was figuring that a degree as well as experience would trump a "certification". My friend wants to work for a PD/SD as a tech, however he is unwilling to go to school for his BA/BS. I've recommended he should attend Sam Houston and work part time for TDCJ, but comforts seem to outweigh his desires.
