    Dear all

After my BSc Int Mgmt and my Msc Finance I am starting to prepare respectively evaluate a possible PHD/DBA programme.

Today, I believe that I am most interested in topics around ‘operations management’. I work in the service industry and therefore it is rather about processes, IT, business operations, quality management, design of services, and management than logistics, manufacturing, supply chain, production, etc.

As I am located in Europe and have a 100% job I am looking for a part-time programme that is provided by distance and if any includes only few onsite classes. Obviously, I would prefer universities with good reputation.

Does anyone here have experience or knowledge regarding PHD/DBA programmes in Operations Mgmt that meet my requirements?

    Thank you in advance!

Best regards & have a nice weekend

În terms of pushing it a little bit: Why is it that such an important topic is not offered through a recognized online-programme (however, if a programme exists it can not be found through the internet......)?

    Cheers & Thank you

I might be wrong but you may be trying to put too fine a point on the subject. What I mean is that a PhD or DBA degree program is designed to be specialized so you could go to any PhD in Business and turn it into an "Operations Mgmt" degree by the courses you take, the topics you research and the subject of your dissertation/final project.

@Ted Heiks: Thanks for your tip. I just browsed through the thread and found some interesting programe

@Kizmet: Thanks, you brought up a good point! But, I am not sure at all what kind of program would be best.

Let me try to explain what I am thinking about.

There are programms that consist of course work in terms of business subjects such as corporate finance, strategy, technology and innovations, operations and so one.
Other programms consists of general modules such as Reflective Professional Development, Systematic Literature Review, Research Methodology and Methods, Action and Case Research.

Both than do finish with a dissertation/project.

These two kind of programs make me kind of unsecure. One one hand I believe that it would be enough to be guided through the "science part" and than just focusing on a topic for the dissertation. As there would be a lot of readings there will be a learn effect on the topic for sure. On the other hand I somehow have the impression that it would be great to learn more about the business subjects per se. But, as a Bsc and Msc holder in business administration and corporate finance I already learnt a lot. So, I do not know how much the "gap" will be. Coming back to your suggestion of "customizing a program through the choice of courses and dissertation topic" what would be an appropriate program/school for a DBA towards operations und technology management?

Hope I was able to express my thoughts :))

    Thanks again!
    Cheers

    Hi Prof

I should think about changing my name, because it sounds sometimes a bit confusing to be called "Don" :)))

    Thanks for adding the link.

I have read about the program and came up with 2 concerns:
    a) it sounds as the program puts emphasis on industrial companies whereas I am interested in operations & technology management for service companies
    b) I hold a BSc from a B&M university that is well-know in my aread and a MSc from University of London (B&M school, long history, well-known, but I did the program online) ->>> How is the repuration of Capella? Thkinking about a HR guy or future boss clickling on the page and askin "Doctor, Cappella, what the hell??" does not give me a good feeling.

What is your opinion on that?

    Thanks!
    Regards
