So I have a quick question.

I am enrolling at TESC next week for classes that start in Dec.

I had my transcripts sent to TESC last week from the local CC I went to a few years back.

I received an e-mail today saying that I could view there decision on what credits would transfer to there school.

So while I was checking out there decision online, something did not look right. The credits I tool at my local CC were 3 credit courses--bit looks like they only gave me 1.66 of the 3 credits that I got. I would think that if I passed a 3 credit class here, they would give me full credits to apply there, not half.

This is my first transfer, so maybe this is the norm. Its just when I heard how easy it was to transfer credits to TESC, I figured you received the full credits. Below is just a part of there decision. Am I reading it wrong.

I am calling them Monday morning. I just wasn't sure if anybody here had any comments. Thanks

maybe the CC was quarter hours, not credits

Thats what I thought. But I just called my CC and they said that they are full credit hours and all should of been excepted fully.

Perhaps sign language courses count as a "laboratory" courses.

How many units total have you transferred to TESC?

Well at the time they did offer a "laboratory" sign class or the college level classes. I was going to take the "lab" variety, but it was only 1 credit and the class was like 8 hrs each Saturday. And that was not going to work for me.

So instead, I took the college level sign which is the 100+ courses i.e. Sign Language 101, Sign Language 102.

I guess I will just find out Monday when I call them.

And to answer your second question--I am trying to transfer 16 credits and TESC only wants to give me 9.63 credits. I know thats not a lot, but at over 200 a credit plus books, thats 1500 plus.

This seems like with so few transfer credits you will be paying annual fees for a few years. Have you thought about just earning credits from various sources at a much lower cost than $200/unit then transferring them when you are close to your degree (e.g. 40-50 semester units for an AA or 90-100 semester units for a BS)?

Also Excelsior or COSC might give you more cedit for tour sign language courses.

That's awfully strange. Standard procedure counts sign language classes as foreign language classes, and your credit should be just as if you had taken a spanish or french class.

There really isn't much we can help you with, you are going to have to strain your way through the TESC staff to get them to fix this :smashfreakB:

According to the plan I am on, I don't have to pay for annual fees. I am on the plan that is a straight up $7200 per year for up to 36 credits. Now there is a plan that does have a $2000 annual fee, but I am not on that one.

True I could save money going back to my local CC--but with being in sales, my hours are crazy.

Yeah, I will call them Monday. Whats weirs is they did the same with all my college level computer science classes along with my college level math classes. All of my credits are like that.

I have not taken any classes in 8 years, so I wonder if they might think that I have lost some knowledge and game me partial credit.

You could probably earn your complete BS degree for much less than $7200. You can earn credits at a wide variety of colleges via distance learning together with CLEP and DSST exams. I would work you up some figures but I just received a major project that I have to complete in several days.

What major are you aiming for?

I graduated from TESC (luckily I didn't have to pay the fees since I am military) but the best way to complete a degree from TESC is to have the majority of your credits ready and pay the fee one time and be done with it before the time runs out on the money. I don't see it talked much about on here, but it is very popular at the "other" forum.

This $250 credit banking service as a non enrolled student sounds interesting. Does anyone know if they award credits for your FAA pilot licenses? Is it an extra fee for the award of credits from certifications, licenses, FEMA course, etc? Thanks in advance.

    My major is Accounting.

If you could help me figure out a way to get my degree in Accounting for $7200 or less, I would love to her it.

From the research I have read on here, I was under the impression TESC was one of the cheaper routes to go.

So if there is even a cheaper route, that would work.

One more thing. It looks like its $7200 for first year students, then it drops to $6200 each year after.

So the question is--is 20k for an Accounting degree to much. Hell, Grand Canyon University was going to cost me about 44k. So I thought I was doing good at 20k ish

I love this site. Thanks to all for the replies.

You know, the two are so different there really isn't any competition. One is geared totally towards undergraduates and one is mostly graduate. I've mainly moved on from the other one because it doesn't apply to me and occasionally stop by to see what is happening.

TESC accepts 120 transfer credits. There are RA colleges with tuition under $100 a credit. So, shop around and take the classes that you can from various other colleges and transfer them in.

I think you should post this question on the other board because I think you would only need to be enrolled with TESC for one year if you play your cards right. What you could do is CLEP/DSST, ALEKS or FEMA everything you don't already have credit for other than your accounting courses, business policy and maybe another course or two. I suspect you could go that route for 10-12k or so, and it would probably be even less if you took the accounting courses with an inexpensive option such as LSU and CLEP (for Financial Accounting).

I don't know which board you are referring to but in my opinion this is the best board around. Posters invariably get their questions answered here. Plus a lot of info can be found and questions answered by performing a search.

I know what the other board is, and it doesn't exist.
