What have you done with your African degree?

  1. There's an incredible array of distance degrees offered by universities in Africa -- particularly South Africa (ie. UNISA). Has anyone actually finished one of these programs? If so, what did your degree do for you? How was it received in your home country?

I completed the MTh (Unisa) and DTh (Uzulu) and was very satisfied with my education -- but not always the quality of communications with either school.

I did not undertake either qualification for professional academic advancement .... the competition for those jobs is just brutal. Putting a SAfr qualification against one from Princeton, Chicago, or similar -- you don't stand much of a chance.

However, if you pursue the qualification for personal, or ministerial reasons, the SAfr degrees are high quality education for the money.

I think that our old friend RoscoeB is the most recent grad (with his shining PhD). Maybe a pm might catch his attention.

What is the name of the individual who completed his PhD in Theology at Unizul at the ripe young age of 61?

My DEd degree from Unisa allowed me to upgrade my teaching certificate to the point I could not be hired because of the cost of paying a person with that level of education. But on a positive side, I was accepted to the Post doctoral studies in Education programme at McGill University in Montréal, Canada which is considered one of the best in Canada and ranked in the top 100 in the world on most of those sites that list the world universities.

It also gave me the possibility of entering a second PhD programme in South Africa at the Free State.

I'm looking for a decent comparision of Auckland Park theological seminary (Pentecostal) and SATS. I am looking to complete a phd in practical Theol and I have been provisionally accepted to both. (they are waiting on my money). Any thoughts on these schools.
