Aspen is not a phoenix. Phoenix is not an aspen.

I am amused by the new [to me] verbiage near the top of the Aspen University website:

    I am success.
I am not a phoenix as that requires me to fail before I succeed.

Is this a little jibe at the competition? Shall we expect the University of Phoenix to counter with:

    I am success.
I am not an aspen as that requires me to shiver and tremble in the slightest wind.

Ok, let's make a game of this! :D

    Excelsior College:
    I am ever upward.
I am not a Charter Oak which never moves from its spot, often being passed by unnoticed.

    Charter Oak State College:
    I am without boundaries.
What the heck is an Excelsior?

Is IMPAC University a degree mill too? I thought it was DETC accredited.

  17. Aspen's web site is unpolished, from end to end. It would be worth the investment for them to update it. Removing the stupid phoenix poem would be a start.

I really don't understand why the site is just so blah. I could do better. Honestly. Yet, I have never been a professional and I stopped making my own websites 10 years ago. I really hope that they didn't pay someone to "design" that thing.

  19. I have limited web design skills but I could create a better site given a weekend and a mini-case of Red Bull.

If they can't even project a quality online presence, how are we to assume that their online programs are of good quality? What would HR think when they look up Aspen after seeing it on a resume?

I don't want to seem overly harsh, but I think the web site makes Aspen look like a diploma mill.

They were DETC accredited, but DETC revoked their accreditation. IMPAC sued and DETC reinstated their accreditation "during the pendency of IMPAC's petition". IMPAC is presently accredited, but I'm not sure about the status of their legal action.

EDIT: According to PACER, the case was resolved in December 2008. I imagine they settled with retention of accreditation being a condition.
