As many of us (I presume) have lost our jobs due to layoffs, downsizing, company closing etc..
It is becoming very hard to find similar jobs or sometimes any jobs in this economy; so in the meantime are there any specific skills/certifications that are in high demand and would highly increase our chances of getting a job.
I suggest that we all contribute and compile a list to help us get back on our feet:
This is what I found so far during my Job search
SAS Certifications - SAS | Business Analytics and Business Intelligence Software
PMP - PMI - the World
    All the best:rolleyes:

  2. Funny, I was just thinking about getting PMP certified. Not sure it would help me though.

I think anyone who has the ability to be a contracts manager:

    National Contracts Manager

might find work fairly easy. Especially if the individual is versed in Government and subcontracts.

In addition to technical writing I would add proposal writing.

Many businesses are turning to both the Government and Government primes to sustain and/or grow their own portfolios.

I have never, ever, heard a bad thing from anybody about any Cisco IT certification.

Keep it coming guys; Other Certifications that are in demand are:
CSSGB & CSSBB - ASQ - Six Sigma Forum

Randell had a thread on some CSSGB training that you could do online and get the GB certification, if I remember correctly is was not too pricey and could be completed pretty quickly.

My test for any certification is to go to indeed.com and do a job search for that certification as a requirement. Do it for your local area and then nationally. Often times the picture painted by people pushing certifications and what is happening in the trenches are completely different.

For instance in Spokane, WA - 3 jobs where PMP is required or desirable. 0 jobs where SANS certifications are required or desirable. 4 jobs where SAS knowledge is needed. 5 jobs looking for CCNA.

    YMMV.

Precisely, and it would only make this list a lot more valuable if it is a shared effort with people from different background and viewpoints.

If I was going to start collecting certs I'd start with the PMP and the six-sigma. They may not guarantee a job but I think that they are both widely known and respected certs. Plus, earning them as a bridge to (better) employment is a very positive quality in the eyes of a hiring manager. It shows that you're willing to work hard to improve your situation and not just sending out resumes with your fingers crossed. Big points for that in my book.

The CSSGB was only about $225. Add "Lean Certification" to the list.

I have few business and IT certifications and all they have their time and then will become either saturated or obsolete due to new technology. I don't there is any certification that can guarantee a job.

Agreed. There is nothing that will guarantee a job in this economy. Sad to say, but it's most likely the way things are.

    CISSP is still lucrative.

It appears as though most of the certifications that are listed fall into the IT field. Why is that? Does IT have a better chance than others. Just curious.
