I think the management of Aspen is on to something. Quality education at a resonable cost. Degreeinfo could have a best value list. This may spare us the grieve of reading multiple threads on Aspen.

This is good info for our members and lurkers to know, it needed to be posted.

  7. What evidence is there that Aspen is quality education? Cheap, yes.

    Maybe there is a way?
Not just Aspen but any MBA graduate.

CMBA Certified Masters of Business Administration

“The use of a nationally recognized certification exam as one of our competency
assessments is an important part of many of our degree offerings,” said President Bob
Mendenhall. “It is entirely consistent with our approach of tying competencies to key industry
requirements, and allowing our graduates to earn not only an accredited degree but
professional certification at the same time.”
“The CMBA Exam is the only universal tool that measures an MBA’s grasp of the core business fundamentals, regardless of MBA school or program type,” said Mike Mebane, cofounder
and managing director of ICI. “WGU and their students can be confident that
candidates passing the exam have a solid command of the MBA core curriculum, making this
new professional designation a valuable means of verifying an MBA’s proficiency to present or
future employers while leveling the playing field in the job market.”
According to Dr. Bern Beatty, career MBA educator and co-founder of the CMBA Exam,
“Most business schools shy away from assessments used as a condition of advancement.

Zero evidence of Aspen's quality. I guess I got caught up in the hype.

Only board members who have taken course can attest to the quality and rigor. Does EC, COSC or TESC provide quality educations? No, they only provide degrees to most people on the forum (Clep Clep Clep). Yet we still talk about them in quantity. How do I know the quality of AMU? By your logic without proof they are substandard correct?

What quality are we talking about in DL programs when all what students do is write, write, and write papers and in some cases, take some exam at the end? Aspen's quality, in my opinion, could easily be narrowed to the two proctored exams that they require, the six months capstone course, and in many regard, actual admission requirements (which many often overhyped RA schools/programs do not come close to requiring). Aspen is good enough for an NA school. The cost of attending makes a degree from Aspen highly valuable with guaranteed ROI. Would you rather spend $600-$700 per credit hour in a master's degree(many RA DL schools are charging it) that will be discriminated against or $100 per credit hour? if the discussion is about value, it can't get any better than this I'm sorry.

Actually, you can earn a degree from Charter Oak entirely by taking courses through them. They're not just good for examination-for-credit enthusiasts, although sure, there is that.

There can NEVER be too many Aspen threads!

The quality of the name "Aspen University" outweighs everything else. :)

    Shhhhhhhh!!!

  15. I still think Aspen University sounds like a school for ski instructors.

I hadn't even really considered Aspen U until all these threads popped up, so I wandered over and fell in love with their MA in Psychology of Addiction and Counseling program. I REALLY like it. And for the price...wow! It's actually applicable to future career plans for me (long story)... I may enroll. Maybe. Possibly. Just for the knowledge alone, it would be worth it.

Excelsior sounds like a school for Knights to me......
Full Sail sounds like a church.....

I think this is true for all of the big 3, but who does?

Yeah, and they have programmatic accreditation in addition to national accreditation for the MA in Psych of Addication and Counseling program. You can't beat it.

I want to elaborate on this, since you hit the nail on the head B4. This board pretty much screens in good schools, and screens out bad schools. If not, what is the ultimate purpose of this board? I know, it also gives knowledge to folks about CLEP, DANTES, FEMA, etc.

In short, after all these years, I still have not heard a SINGLE negative thing about Aspen, and I have been around DL much longer than becoming a member here, trust me. I was a DL student at UOI, UCLA, U of Nebraska. You know what? The courses at Aspen are much better than any of the ones I just listed.

All I can say is the Aspen MBA has given me a seat at the big boys table. I can speak with authority regarding business matters, and people listen UP!

Here is the skinny on why Aspen is getting so much coverage. They are making profits while not making obscene profits. They are being a socially responsible Uni. Sounds crazy hah? That is the plain truth. God bless them. Gee, you can be a businessman and still have a heart!

Lots of people! Remember that these degree forums are not necessarily an accurate reflection of how most people approach distance learning.

For example, two thirds of Charter Oak students are in Connecticut, who are looking for the convenience that come from schools like Phoenix and Capella, but without the price tag. I've seen some of the marketing materials they'll be using in their upcoming campaign, and it's all about comparing themselves with the expensive schools that market themselves to death, it's not about CLEP and the like.
