Take heart; all of this effort, expense and pain is going to be worth it!

Get as much education as your can, it's going to be worth it.

Take heart, cheer up and stand firm! Working and going to school is difficult, but you are going to come out on top! All of us who are investing in our education, via online, blended or traditional are making a wise investment into our future. (Given that we are choosing a good program and not going into serious debt in the process). This has been my belief for a long time. In support of this idea, I am offering an article from the Associated Press suggesting that employment will be slow at recovering in the economy of the near future, and when it does, only jobs for individuals with a higher education will be robust. Employment prospects for those with less education will be poor. Here is a paste from part of the article:

Whenever companies start hiring freely again, job-seekers with specialized skills and education will have plenty of good opportunities. Others will face a choice: Take a job with low pay — or none at all.

Job creation will likely remain weak for months or even years. But once employers do step up hiring, some economists expect job openings to fall mainly into two categories of roughly equal numbers:

    • Professional fields with higher pay. Think lawyers, research scientists and software engineers.

    • Lower-skill and lower-paying jobs, like home health care aides and store clerks.

Yea, me neither, but the better your education the better your job prospects will be. I don't think job prospects will be limited to those three professions. I especially don't think that becoming a lawyer is a great idea for most people, there are too many out there already, too much competition.

And those with excellent skills in research methodologies can become fact checkers for well known businesses and news corporations.

Indeed. Most use MLIS grads, as I am told from a good friend.

All the effort in going to school will pay off with self enlightenment rather than a higher paying job.

Excellent point. Stop thinking of your degrees only in terms of job opportunities. If that's the only goal and purpose, I can see why many people have a hard time staying motivated.

I think it's easier to think strictly in monetary ROI because of the economy. When times are better, it's easier for people to pursue degrees for the purpose of enlightenment or personal interests.
