2nd Masters Degree - MBA Options

Hi Folks,

I'm coming to the board for your advice, wisdom and thoughts. I already have a masters degree in information systems. However, I wanting to broaden my horizons and get an MBA.

I'm just wondering if they are any programs that would give me partial credit for already having a masters degree in a somewhat related field. I would hate to have to start all over again. Here are my general requirements:

1) Regionally Accredited (RA)
2) Online
3) Cost
4) Time to complete
5) Transferability of some of my existing graduate unit.

Try Webster Webster University. They have a program for people with MAs/MSs seeking MBAs.

 

Since you have already a Master's, it would be more cost effective to do a post Master's certificate or graduate certificate in business rather than another Master's degree. Excelsior and University of Dallas are the schools with the most generous transfer policies for ther MBAs but you would need to complete and MBA in Information Systems in order to get the maximum transfer.

I agree with this. I have a MS in Organizational Development, & I've started a certificate in Business Administration from Kansas State University. The certificate is all online. Here's the program: Business Administration – K-State Division of Continuing Education

 

Why you need the MBA? If you want ot teach management is more cost effective to get some management classes in the area you want to teach (e.g Project Management(. If you want to become a manager, I believe some extra management classes would be more than enough.

If you really want the MBA, the MBA in IT would be the way to get the most credit transfer. As for redundancy, may be but you don't really need to have the specialization listed in your resume if it bothers you.

 

In your case Mr Tito, I think an IT MBA would indeed be redundant since DSU already provides the option of taking many master's level IS/IT courses to fill-in the gaps. I'm currently exploring the option of an MBA in IT or IT management in order to take additional IT courses, since my IT Management MS was made up of 9 classes only, and without undergrad IT foundation. A very good general MBA that is also affordable is this one by MCKendree University, or the one offered by Wilmington University. You can also pick from known programs such as the one offered by Indiana University Kelly School of Business, or the Southern New Hampshire University Global MBA. What you can also do, maybe take up an MBA in Finance/Accounting - specializations that are also in demand. Goodluck!
