A question about how transfer of credits works

I'm trying to understand how transferring of credits works -

My wife is wanting to pursue a Bachelors eventually.
In the past she graduated from the business program at Heald College (the courses are all ACE accredited) and currently she's enrolled in a certificate program (HR) at a local community college.

    So my question is -
Will these courses/credits be able to be transferred to a 4 yr school (thinking Excelsior or TESC right now), or are they invalid because they've been used to get a certificate/program degree?

    Thanks

According to "teh google", Heald College is an RA school (which only offers two-year degrees), and I assume the local community college is, too. Your wife should have no problem transferring these credits into a bachelor's degree program at a four-year school. Basically, these credits will likely represent the bulk of her freshman and sophomore years in her BA/BS program. Schools admit transfer applicants with associate's degrees all the time. In fact, the NC community college system awards AA degrees with "majors" such as "College Transfer" and "Pre-Business Administration" that are specifically targeted to students who want to pursue a 4-year degree, but for academic and/or financial reasons need to start their coursework at a community college.

What wouldn't fly is earning a BS in Business Administration at say, the University of Wyoming, and then sending your transcript to one of the Big 3 and expecting to be awarded another bachelor's degree with no further coursework on your part.

    Good luck to your wife!

Now this is not an AA degree, it's a certificate, correct? A lot might depend on exactly what the classes cover. If they are your basic freshman and sophomore classes, like English 101, then there should be no problem at all. There is a question of whether the classes she has taken will actually be the classes that the new school is looking for. If they don't match, there might be a problem. If they are classes that are specific to a certificate and not the kind you would take for your AA, you could possibly have problems.

What are some of the classes she has taken?

    Thanks,
    Yes, they're certificates, not degrees.
I know some of the courses won't transfer (looking at having TESC evaluate them), I was just curious whether using the credits for the certificates would in some way mean they were 'used up' and couldn't be transferred or used towards another, higher degree.
