So here it is, my list of completed classes: 63 FEMA courses complete 1/2/10 4 NFA courses Complete 1/5/10 A+ (Computer Repair) N+ (Networking) MCP XP PRO (Microsoft Certified Professional) AP English Literature ALEKS Beginning Algebra ALEKS Intermediate Algebra ALEKS College Algebra ALEKS TRIG. ALEKS Intro to STATS Straighterline Macro Econ Straighterline Micro Econ Straighterline Accounting I Straighterline Accounting II Penn Foster Info Literacy Penn Foster Art Appreciation Penn Foster Music Appreciation I believe this will compile nicely into an A.S. from Excelsior, but now it's time to actually sign up and find out. I'm absolutely terrified, and I'm not actually sure what order to do things in. I have to spend a bunch of money with FCC to transcribe the FEMA classes and I'm not sure when to do that (or which FEMA classes to transcribe), I have to find out how to get a transcript sent from College board for my AP Literature test, I have to discover the process for turning my certifications into college credit, and sign up for ACE and pay. This will be very expensive if it somehow doesn't work out.... I know that wasn't really a question...but I'm still sorting things out. *breathing deeply, nervously*.
Excelsior A.S. requirements: General Education for AS – 9 credits in two areas and 6 credits in one area Humanities (AP Lit and PFC art/music classes = fulfilled--9 credits) Social Sciences/History (Economics I and II = fulfilled -- 6 credis) Math/Natural Science (ALEKS = fulfilled -- 9 credits) Written English Requirement – 3 credits (AP lit = fulfilled) Information Literacy – 1 credit (PFC class = fulfilled) Arts and Sciences – 3 credits (ALEKS Stats, 3 credits upper level = fulfilled) Arts and Sciences/Applied Professional – 29 credits (FEMA, NFA, Certs, SL accounting classes = fulfilled) Does that make sense to everybody? I think I got this! *looking for change in the couch to help pay for all this*
You may find that this does not work for you - they are pretty strict on what they accept for English language (AP English Language is acceptable).
I actually called them about that one ahead of time and after some coaxing got the answer. It duplicates AP English and Straighterline English I and II if the person I talked to was correct. So that's why I took the PFC humanities courses instead of Straighterline English I and II. Also I think Maniac confirmed for me that the AP Lit and Lang tests duplicate each other at EC. But if something did happen, a Straigherline solution would take a matter of weeks at worst, not a terrible worst case scenario. That's what I actually wanted to take originally. @Lawrence: Thanks!
What do you mean exactly by "wash the fema credit"? I have to send it through FCC or maybe Clackmas (haven't checked into that for a while) to get EC to take it.
Your FEMA coursework could be evaluated for credit if you find a college with an Emergency Services major . . . Just a though. BTW, on a side note, didn't those courses in Economics suck, lol. I took Marco last year and I still get the chills when I think about it. That was one of the hardest class I ever took. At my college its know as the 3rd toughest class offered behind I believe Bio/ chem. (Maybe not in that order??)
I didn't need a very good grade because I used ACE which makes the credit pass/fail. If I had needed even a B it would have been much harder.
Excelsior doesn't take FEMA courses directly, so you have to get them put on a transcript at a school that does and transfer them from that school to EC.
Yes, TESC take them in raw format straight from fema, and i believe TESC is the cheapest to get these on a transcript
TESC and Red Rocks CC in Denver are the only two schools I know of that take them RAW (and free) besides FCC and Clackmas. Excelsior gladly takes them on a transcript from FCC but no longer from TESC. It used to be cheapest to put the credit in a TESC credit bank but that no longer works with Excelsior. TESC has limitations on the amount of FEMA credit they will take, Excelsior will take an unlimited amount (you are only limited by how many electives you can implement towards your degree). I need a bit more FEMA credit than TESC will take towards an associates, ergo Excelsior is my school of choice.
I would be great if FEMA would just stick these under the umbrella of their RA college and be done with it.
