I've posted here a handful of times and haven't stopped by for a while. I've got 2 classes left to completing my Masters in School Counseling and Guidance at Univ of West Alabama online. I am very pleased but nervous about finding a job afterwards. It seems that the wonderful state of Virginia is not accepting the UWA MSCE degree for certification as a School Counselor. I must get certified in another state and then apply for a reciprocal certification in VA. A fellow UWA student in my area finished her degree in March and is still trying to work it out with the VA Dept of Ed. The dean at UWA has been of some help, but not enough. It seems that not all their degrees are state-approved, and some states (such as VA) require that. UWA needs to work with their Alabama Dept of Ed to get them ALL state-approved. Not bashing UWA, but thought I'd put it out here. Anyway, 2 more classes, one Praxis exam next month, and hopefully things will work out for my certification.
Which degree are you completing? I don't see a degree program titled the exact way you said but I see several that are similar. Is it Master of Education: School Counseling or Master of Science in Continuing Education: Guidance and Counseling . If it is the second one, which lists Guidance and Counseling, then the disclaimer is perfectly clear that it isn't even acceptable for their own state.
