I have just completed the enrollment process at Liberty for the EdS and EdD program. With one extra class you earn an EdS at about the halfway point to your EdD. Plus, that means you have a bail out point halfway through the program where you can leave and still end up with a nice degree. I'm pretty sure several other schools offer this kind of program, but it's new to me and I'm stoked. Buy one; get one free! (almost)

The other cool thing about it is the fact that it is a blended program. You are required to take 3, one week, concentrated classes on campus, but you can mix and match on-campus and online in any combination you wish. I plan to spend a summer session as a resident student there so that about half the classes in my degree will be on-campus. I'm hoping that will mitigate some of the DL stigma issues.

Sounds great, so you will be there more than the three weeks?

Yea, at least one entire summer. They offer two summer sessions and I might can knock out 4 classes that way. It's tough, but I have two factors that make that OK. My wife loves Virginia and totally wants to go. Also, I have the summers off anyway, so I have the time.

My only kid is 21, still lives at home and she will take care of the house and the dogs. And yes, I have a great wife. I'm blessed.

Sounds like a done deal. Your right about the value of getting some of your classes done in residence, if your asked you can say you did in fact attended class at the campus. Will they take any of your credits from NCU?
I will attend LU as soon as I knock out my BS from AJU. If I can keep the pace up it will be some time in 2011. I think you picked a great school.

Sounds good! What do you plan to do with those degrees once you have them?

Cool, we will be fellow students. Keeping up the pace is difficult, especially with family and work responsibilities. Easier for me because I'm almost an empty-nester.

They are open to transfer of units from NCU, but that part is not a done deal yet. I'm moving from a business concentration at NCU to an education concentration at LU, so there may be some issues.

I'm primarily doing it out of interest in the subject, but I'm a teacher and the degree will get me another pay raise and open the door into administration. Our principal will be retiring about the time I finish the degree, so who knows? Plus, like so many others around DI, I plan to attempt to adjunct. That's a tough gig to land these days, but I'll try.

LU doesn't differentiate between their online and resident degrees so I think you'll be good to go. The summer terms do seem like a great deal, hopefully you are able to take full advantage of them. I think you have made a good decision with a school that is definitely still headed on the way up in all areas.

    Congratulations

I am looking foreword to sharing our experiences in the post-masters education program at Liberty. I am being officially admitted Spring 2011. I will be starting Educ 518 Understanding educational research and assessment on August 23 (Fall B sub-term) as a required bridging course. Thus, I will be doing 33 credits instead of the usual 30 credits. Again, I am looking forward to having you as a fellow aspiring colleague.

I am all but finished with my M.A. with Liberty and it has been a great experience. If you use financial aid you should never have any problems--I never have had any. Every professor I have had was fantastic except one. He was a bit unfair in his re-take policy. I received a "C" grade in his course. I have severe diabetes and take 6 injections a day to control it and mid way through my final exam in his class I had started getting blurry vision and confused so I did a glucose check sure enough my reading was in the 400's so I paused the exam for 20 minutes took an injection and returned to the exam. I ran out of time and scored a 70%. I notify this professor and he states no retest but he will review my final grade in light of this...so I say fine I should be fine with a "B" grade. Well my final grade for the course was 85. 25% well in this course as it takes an 86%. So he gives me no retest and does not round up due to my circumstance and gives me a "C" I ask him why does he not allow me a retest and that a "C" grade is disadvantageous to my CGPA. He said I am sorry I will not retest or up your grade. So essentially I was misled and would have contacted student services with my doctors letter that substantiates the veracity of my request. I have never had a medical problem during testing, before or since--praise the Lord. I did a bit of research and this particular professor was doing adjunct work for 2 other schools so he was over extended and did not want to go the extra mile with a student that had a legitimate medical problem during an exam. That was the only negative incident with Liberty. However, rigidity or not, he was still a good professor who would responded in a timely manner and did all the other things good professors do.

Last term I received an "A" on a final research paper which allowed me to squeak by with a course final grade of 94%(A) -- in my honest subjective opinion -- I should have received a "B". Any way it worked out in the end I will forever have one "C" on my masters transcript and one "A" that perhaps was not deserved.

That prof was totally unreasonable with the insulin deal. Even at my great B&M undergrad school there was one or two profs who I didn't care for. Sounds like Somebody was watching out for you though. I'm not surprised, things like that happen to me all the time!

Funny you say that. I was traveling this week and watched MythBusters (not exactly my favorite show because it has become much more scripted then it used to be but anyway..) and they demonstrated that hitting the ground running actually slowed you down when compared to a standing start. It had to do with the lack of stability and balance when you "hit the ground running". Sorry - could not resist.

Michael - way to go. Please keep us informed on your progress. We need to check the better pool and see who won the "When will Mr Oliver announce that he re-enrolled in a doctoral program" contest!

Okay, interesting. Was Liberty's religious pedigree a pro, a con, or neither for you? Did they suggest how much religious content would be a part of the program, if any?

That is funny. I never really stopped to think why or where that term came from. I wonder if that theory would hold true if the subject was wearing "shape up shoes"? I was skeptical of these shoes at first. My wife bought some to test out the work out while you walk claim. I have to say, after a few months, her legs have become nice and tone, and you can see muscle definition. These things k.............algas. Check out this link:

Shape Ups Shoes for Fitness, Toning, Walking & Excercise - SKECHERS Official Site

I am going to buy the all black shoes for men.

For me, it is a definite pro. The extent to which biblical principles are mixed into the curriculum is unknown at this point, but I'm not concerned. In my opinion, it can only help. I'll let you know more as the program progresses.
