    Hi,

I'm looking for an online accredited BS in computer information systems/technology. Confused as to what I need to look for...I went to the ABET website and saw CAC creditential under other BS degrees from big name universities. Is this what you need and if so are there any online degrees I can do out there that will be my worthwhile?

    Thank you!

    Hi Welcome to Degree Info,

Baker College, Capella, Walden, Northcentral, TUI, Excelsior and many others all offer regionally accredited degrees in various facets of computer technology. All are good schools. You will just have to investigate to decide which is right for your needs.

ABET accredits programs in computer science (ABET/CAC) and engineering (ABET/EAC). In most engineering fields, ABET accreditation is standard; it is particularly valuable in fields like civil engineering, where state licensing is important. However, ABET accreditation is not nearly as important in computer science.

If you take a second look at the abet.org website, you will actually notice that many big-name schools (e.g. Stanford, Caltech, Harvard, Cornell) don't have ABET/CAC accreditation for ther computer science programs. They have ABET/EAC accreditation for their engineering programs (where it matters), but they don't bother with the ABET accreditation for CS.

I would suggest looking for a regionally accredited degree, but not necessarily an ABET degree.
