I just looked at my teacher pay scale spreadsheet and I actually only need 9 units to qualify for the raise that I have been talking about. Whether or not I go for the doctorate, I should at least take 3 more classes and get that raise.

If I decide not to go for the doctorate, do you know the cheapest and quickest way to get those 9 units? It's too bad that CLEP is only for undergraduate stuff, this has to be graduate units.

Did you you pick up a few at NCU? If so do you need a 9 more?

I would DECT it then! Cheap and fast.

I would look at something that is interesting that would give you a grad certificate for the 3 classes. For example CSU-DH has some 9 credit certificates in Quality Management (maybe not your cup of tea) and it is cheap at about $225 a credit. Here is another option - Certificate in Community College Teaching

Here are cheap masters you may want to get started on??-

Those are some low cost options. The cert in CC teaching is just over $1,500 for 9 hours. It's from a good school at that. You would be hard pressed to find one class that cheap and you pick up a teaching cert...win, win!

    Michael,
It just dawned on me - why not take an Ed.D. degree at your local Cal State campus such as these:
CSUF Welcome to Department of Education Leadership
CSULB Ed. D. in Educational Leadership - ASEC, College of Education, CSULB
Perhaps you can get in-state resident tuition rates.
You could pick up the nine units along the way.

Yea, exactly. With the units I earned at NCU combined with a few more I earned to clear my credential and my aborted MBA, I only need 9 more units.

Because you don't want to spend your time away from your wife and you want to be able to have a flexible schedule that does not involved you driving to a school, finding parking and perhaps sitting next to a sweaty fat guy.

9 Graduate units... Check out VESI through Morningside College... And these are Teaching/Edu units. $190 for the 2 credit courses, and $230 for the 3 credit courses... Don't think you can beat that...

Cheap, quick, RA, and on topic for you.

    Michael:

Here is the link to all of VESi's partner schools.

Continuing Education for Teachers - Partner Universities - Virtual Education Software

I made the decision to go with Portland State University for graduate credit, but then again I had also done some undergraduate work there as well.

Not all schools offer graduate credit for the VESi courses, but PSU does for most of them.

    Good luck..... !

I think that Randell's Gradcert idea is the best. Not only do you get the needed credits but you get a cert on top. Even if you had to pay a few extra dollars it might be well worth it.

Have you considered Phoenix's continuing education courses? Most of them are 3 credits each and only 3 weeks. You have to do some work, obviously, but they're quick credits. Virginia accepted them for my teaching license, and I originally used them to go up on our scale to BA+15 prior to getting my masters at Walden.

Cool, thanks Jennifer! You know I was really ticked off at my last school. They would not give me one credit hour for all the hard work I did on my Doctorate of Microwave Cheffery degree. The nerve of some people!
