I hold a B.S. in Biology but my hobby has always been computers. Unfortunately, there is not too much growth in my field and I am kind of tired of it. I would like to join an accelerated Masters Program in Computer Technology (database, IT, programming, etc - I am really open to anything). The idea is to move on from my current line of business to computers.

I would like to do it online only (I hold a full time job), in a year or 1.5 yrs. My economic resources are very limited. Therefore I am looking for a very affordable program. I got my BS abroad in a accredited university, where tuition was close to nothing, except for books. I am paying out of pocket so is 10K unrealistic?

Could you please help me out find schools that could meet my needs?

    Thanks

You might look into Baker College. They are fully regionally accredited and offer a degree in computer science at about $195 a credit. Pretty cheap.

Also, I just happened to be online when you made this most recent post so it got approved and showed up on the board pretty quickly. Some of your posts may take longer to appear if there are no moderators online. As soon as you have posted a number of times, the system will take you off of the moderation program and your posts will go directly to the board. This is a measure to control spam on our board.

Given your biology background, I'd suggest that you investigate whether bioinformatics is something you would want to switch into. When you say you "want to get into computers", well, that's vague and IT is a huge and diverse field. What sort of IT-related profession are you interested in targeting?

I think I would like to get into programming, databases, etc.
What is the ballpark for a masters in this area? Would it be a short program to get into?

..having a quick look at Baker College, it doesn't seem as though they offer their Masters in an online format, just their undergrad degrees...

I know people in the UK with degrees in biology but are making big money writing software for, or selling, computerized medical equipment. I'm sure there must be a similar demand in the USA.

I have been searching for those $5,000 master degrees programs in computers but they all seem to be for education only. Am I day-dreaming thinking that 5K will get me a masters in computers (any field)?
