I eagerly await the release of the GAO's paper tomorrow. I'm interested in knowing which schools were doing this. With the way they dance around as far as who did what, it would almost have been worth it just to wait and do a full-on article. I guess they wanted to be quick to break the news... Sigh...

    I hate teasers.

"Toxic chemicals in every day items that are killing you quickly! What are they? Find out in our week-long expose, coming sometime next month!"

    Thanks Ian!

That's what I get for believing the article.. :p

And they still don't reveal who these colleges were in the report... Bleh...

"Hey, stuff happens out there, in the states, yeah, I saw it happen. You know, stuff."

    Sigh.

Thanks for the link Ian, however, the article does not give out the names of the schools used in the report. :(

I'll bet I can name one of the colleges, but I won't right now. The sales rep for this school has been calling me off and on for nine months, trying every trick in the book to get me to sign up. Very nice about it, but not entirely honest about what can be done with one of their degrees.

It's sad, but in some cases, the bad rap is true.

Do you think UoP is on the list? I have a feeling I know one of the schools on the list but will not say right now.

The scary thing about this particular rep is that she just contacted me again and said "I understand that you are searching around for schools again. What happened with the last one you were in?" I'm not sure how she found out that I was looking. I didn't click any links to that school and I didn't contact her. I wonder if they surf DI? Even then, how would she know that I'm that same person that she talked to before? It was creepy. I asked how she knew and she would not say.

I bet they were on the forum. AJU watches the board and ask's about things going on.

From a Wall St Journal story on the GAO report:
Schools owned by Apollo include University of Phoenix and Western International University. Schools owned by Corinthian include Everest and Heald. Schools owned by Kaplan include Kaplan University and Concord Law School.

You know, I have to slap the WSJ on the wrist here for journalistic shock reporting.

I'm quite sure the entire program was $14,000, while one class at the community college is $520. Not news there.

I don't agree with that (especially at CC costs...) I've seen programs like this cost that much, even in OK. The school in my building (that is state ok'd but not accedited otherwise) is charging $27-35k for an associates degree. CC classes at TCC (Tulsa Community college) are $70 per credit... According to CA sites, the CC classes for CA residents are only $26 per credit.

    Just think about this...

    Virgina College online masters $30,000
State College masters (In state) $5-6,000

Totally. Sometimes it's worth more to pay for prestige, but that's something that no proprietary schools can offer.

Please forgive what maybe a stupid question; but are they going to list the schools that were subject to this investigation, or are they going to leave us guessing?
