    Hi All,
I'm new to the board and have been quite impressed with the level of information and assistance provided here. Thank you in advance for your help with a question I'm sure you've seen many times in various forms.

I'm looking to finish a BA in English I started back in the 90s. I have 55 semester credit hours from 2 state colleges that should transfer without problem and have been working professionaly in the IT field for 16 years.

I've never tried DL, but given current work and family obligations, it's the only real option for me. After doing some research here, I believe I've narrowed my decision down to TESC, APU, and Southern New Hampshire University. Unfortunately, I don't know how to proceed from there.

I'm hoping to retire from IT in the next 5-8 years and transition to teaching at the secondary level. Can you offer advice on:

    1. How do these schools compare reputationally? Would one be a better choice than the others from a potential employer's point of view?

    2. Any personal experiences to share about the schools and/or their English programs?

    3. I hold numerous IT certs (including PMP) and it looks like the schools offer college credit for some of those. I'd also like to attempt testing out of as many required classes as possible. Are any of these schools better suited to this than the others?

    4. Lastly, any advice for someone looking to make a mid-life career transition to education?

    Thank you again!
    Jason

Have you looked at Excelsior College?

You can earn a major in Literature in English if that fits your needs.

I mention Excelsior because it is probably the most flexible RA degree to earn; in part because you can apply up to 59 semester credits of professional courses (education, public administration, computer science, drug education, etc).

Also Excelsior fees are very reasonable if you take courses elsewhere or take challenge exams (CLEP & DSST) and transfer them in.

I can't help you what college/university is best for teaching - why not visit local school administration office and ask them directly.
