    Hey everyone

I am new to this website and have been overwhelmed with the information and expertise! it really is great.

I finished my undergraduate degree at UC Davis and am applying to accelerated second bachelor and masters entry programs in nursing.

I WOULD LOVE some more opinions and advice about the following predicament

I need the following courses to be finished before i can apply
    public speaking
    general psychology
    abnormal psychology
    bioethics

Cash flow... my scholarship has officially ended so i am strapped. i would love for courses to cost <500 each if can be. I have seen that LSU and BYU can accomdate that

its hard for me to decipher between everyones posts and see what really is the best way for me to accomplish this. I want to finish 2 of the courses by the end of august and the other 2 by the end of novemeber.

I would need to get As in the courses. I will have about 25 hours of outside work in addition to these courses.

From what i have seen so far- BYU online public speaking seems to be quite amazing and efficient and cost effective

abnormal psych/psych are also offerend at BYU and LSU. LSU seems to have a rule saying u cannot finish more than 3 lessons in a 7 day period- which works out to be about 5.5 weeks per course which isnt that bad.

Anyone have advice with regards to LSUs independent study?

Anyone have suggestions? I have ABSOLUTELY no idea about these CLEP exams or Excelsior etc. Excelsior seemed sketchy from the website so im looking for advice or info to guide me otherwise. I need the credit to count for my graduate programs and I dont just need credit- i actually need to do well in the courses as all of them are calculated in my GPA.

a little more about me- I am a fast paced learned who enjoys reading and writing. Math is not my strong part but science has never been an issue for me. I am comfortable with reading online or in print. I have only taken one other online course before at a junior college and performed wonderfully.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your time and expertise. What I have learned so far can change my younger siblings college route in addition to my own!! :D

    Hi Mojo. Welcome to DegreeInfo.

I can't answer all of your questions but I can tell you that Excelsior and their acceptance of CLEP exams is legit, not sketchy. It will give you legitimate college credit for your own self study, all you have to do is take the test. Whether it will meet your needs or not is up to you to decide, but it's the cheapest and fastest way to go if you can do it.

If you are going to apply for the BS to accelerated BSN program you need to check with the school to see if Excelsior College exams are accepted. yes they are "legitimate" but not all schools accept the credits.

Also see if Clovis Community College will satisfy their entry reqs. They have Public speaking 3 credits. Cost $180 +/- and you can take up to 7 credits for the same price

I have taken courses from BYU Independent study and they are rigorous but doable! The price is fair!

Many years ago I took the abnormal psych challenge exam from Excelsior College and it was very straightforward. Just download the study guide and buy a used textbook from Amazon. Of course some schools may not accept it!

If you reside in California check out this catalog
    California Virtual Campus

Most colleges and universities require at leat 30 additional credits for a second bachelors degree.

Excelsior is great and low cost as long as you avoid their courses which are expensive compared to other options.
