It seems that in the last few years, we have seen quite a few people looking for the cheapeast, fastest, accredited and with minimum effort DBA.

I came accross the honorary DBA from California International Business University that is ACICS accredited.

I wonder if this degree would satisfy the need for a vanity accredited DBA that seems to be goal for a large number of members of this board.

The degree comes from an accredited school so it won't blow on your face and you can legally call yourself "Dr" that seems to be the primary goal of many degree seekers from this board.

I wonder if someone has any experience with this "Honorary DBA"

Are they just giving these away or do you have to pay them for it? It is hard to understand why someone with a Ph.D. from Penn would pay for this, so I am assuming it is just given away, like a normal honorary degree. There also appears to be someone with a legit MD on that page.

There appears to also be a non-honorary DBA program that one would pay for and take classes towards.

    "Jerry Kaplan Ph.D.

As a serial entrepreneur, Jerry Kaplan is widely credited with a number of inventions and patents, including online auctions (as a founder of Onsale.com), and pen computers (as a founder of GO Corporation). He is perhaps best known for his bestselling non-fiction novel, Startup: A Silicon Valley Adventure. Jerry holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently the CEO of Winster.com."

I don't see the part where these are for sale. Many real schools, even proprietary ones, award honorary doctorates to graduation speakers and other prominent members of the community in which they're based.

    Did I miss something?

They are not supposed to be for "sale" but available to those that "should have demonstrated in their life and in their work high standards of excellence as evidenced by scholarship or creative activity; by professional development and achievement; by public service to the world, the nation, the state, or the community; in wholehearted commitment to the development of the CIBU".
Yes, most universities offer honorary degrees but they don't advertise them in their web site.

The question is how rigorous is their "experience" validation process. I wonder if someone from the board can email them ask for the price and requirements of this honorary DBA.

    Hello Everyone,

    CIBU offers four degree programs:

Bachelor of Science in Management (upper division only)
Master of Science in International Management
    Master of Business Administration
    Doctor of Business Administration

Anybody who meets CIBU's application requirements can apply to these four programs in order to pursue their education with CIBU.

The Honorary DBA degree on the other hand is different than the others. This Honorary Degree is an award to those who have demonstrated in their life and in their work high standards of excellence as evidenced by scholarship or creative activity; by professional development and achievement; by public service to the world, the nation, the state, or the community; in wholehearted commitment to the development of CIBU.

In other words, CIBU's Honorary Doctorate Degree is not offered by submitting an application or paying a tuition fee. This degree is given every year to the people selected by CIBU's Board members.

We are very proud of our honorary doctors; therefore, we keep a special link dedicated to these wonderful people on our web site.

    Thank you.
