I made previous posts on selecting online degrees. Now I am set to select a business degree with 3 possible schools with all AACSB accredited: U of Alabama: higher overall ranking in USNWR ranking, but only have general business option. Aarizona State U: the new BA Business in communication concentration, the school ranks 26th in business school ranking in USNWR. Washington State U: ranking was the lowest one, but i am interested in information systems that this school have this concentration. So maybe some suggestions to me?
That's an impressive shortlist - you're not going to go wrong with any of those choices. If you want to study Information Systems, then it sounds like your decision is made for you, and you're headed to Washington State. If you're not dead-set on studying IS, then I would fall back on the general advice that I give would-be MBA students: go to the most prestigious school you can afford that you can get into. It's worth going to a slightly lower-ranked school if you can avoid building up a mountain of student loans. All three of your choices are well-known state-supported schools. I don't know where you live, but that should probably play a factor in your decision. The closer you are to the school you get your degree from, the more likely you are to run into fellow alumni when you go out looking for a job, for networking, etc. It sounds petty, but I've seen more than one situation where two candidates for the same job had pretty much the same education and qualifications, and the hiring manager picked the guy who attended his alma mater for the job. Best of luck with your decision!
You're right, I am still concern about the ranking of WSU since I will look for further studies, either master or phd....... ASU have a higher reputation in B-schools and UA have a better overall reputation.... I will make the application to all of these and see what happened...
I think it depends on where you live - here in So. CA I know of graduates from WSU and ASU but never met or heard of anyone from U of AL. Most people don't follow the USNWR rankings (I hired people based on whether they could perform the work required - not where their degree was from - and when I had to break a tie between two candidates I looked to see if they had completed specific courses pertinent to the job).
I would never recommend the University of Alabama to anyone, but maybe I am biased. ASU is a good school, but keep in mind that the b-school ranking you are referencing is for their MBA program, not their undergraduate business programs. That said, it is still the best undergraduate business program of any of the options you are considering. All three are fine state universities, you would be good with any of your choices. Good luck.
If your grades are good and your GMAT is impressive, that shouldn't be a huge problem. Especially if you go on for postgraduate study of MIS, it will matter that you majored in it as an undergraduate. -=Steve=-
I don't quite get it. USNWR ranks MBA programs, not undergraduate programs. As someone else already said, if your grades are good and you meet all other requirements, you will get into a good graduate program from any accredited undergraduate school. It's not like you need a faculty of Nobel Prize laureates to teach some kids the fundamentals of business. If you are concerned about the overall ranking/reputation, all schools are pretty much the same: lower end of the top tier in USNWR, and everyone has heard the names before. No one, absolutely no one will every care about the exact ranking position of your school.
I received my MS (B&M, in chemistry) from UA and all rivalries aside, it was a positive experience has had a very positive impact on my life.
I have plenty of friends who went to school there and they have all done well for themselves. UA is a fine school, and the second best university in the state of Alabama.
That's why I excluded Drexel that the tuition is 2 times higher than the others with the similar curriculum.... And it's a little bit rush to apply to entry this fall So I will apply into next spring.....
Previously you said you won't recommend UA to others, and now you said UA is a fine school. Which statement I should trust?
He probably said that because he graduated from Auburn. Auburn vs. UA, don't quote me on this but that rivalry is one of the biggest in the state. Just harmless fun. On a sidenote...GO Bulldogs.
