I'm planning to join distance MBA program (online) I have made many researches and end up between to options (considering the tuitions)
Durham Business School (12,500GBP) and University of Leicester (13,500GBP) I'm really confused since Durham is credited from (AACSB, Amba, Equis) but not sure about Leicester. And I contradicted opinions about both of them, I care about quality of knowledge I'm going to have and the how the name of the university sounds in the work market. I'm up to any other suggestions a side of Durham and Leicester.

    Thanks

Both universities are quite on par. Durham has a slight advantage in overall ranking, Leicester a slight in the business department.
I actually had recently to make the same decision for a specialized MA (Marketing) and received last week my admission offer from Durham. My decision was based largely on that Durham is lesser known as a DL provider than Leicester, that it is after Ox&Cam (allegedly) the 3rd oldest UK University and has from my experience an exceptionally responsive staff. But that's just my personal experience. The work market reception might be significantly dependent on how far away from the UK you are located. The farer away you get, the lesser anyone might be able to differentiate beyond Ox/Cam/LSE.

Btw, did you also consider Warwick?
Distance learning study mode for the Warwick MBA | WBS
Warwick does extremely well in rankings. Might be worth taking a look.
Also somewhat "interesting": the Durham MA in Management costs with £6,500 only half of the MBA.

I spend a lot of time in the UK. Durham is a very respeced university.

I have visited their campus on several occasions while on vacation - not for studying - but to look at the buildings and local scenery, and to listen to concerts in the Cathedral in the center of the campus. The Durham student housing is in a castle.

There is (or was) a great Italian restaurant at the foot of the road to the old campus.

Besides all that it is in the North, and I'm a Northerner :)

Univ of Leicester MBA tuition is only GBP 8,165. They are AMBA accredited.
With all respect to all other posts, Leicester's MBA has a better ranking in the UK and Europe. I would say go with Leicester.

    maj81,

I would suggest you take a hard look at either Warwick or Henley. They are generally considered the best options for flexible/distance learning in the UK.

Also search under threads with my name, you'll find lots of info from when I was making the same decision as you back in 2005. I did also look at Durham and several other UK options (Strathclyde, Cranfield, Cass, Imperial etc, not all available by distance) but got down to Warwick vs. Henley quite quickly, and in the end settled on Henley. I was not disappointed, however have a few friends studying at Warwick who also say it is great.

I would definitely go for the MBA. It still carries a lot more weight than any other business masters.

Feel free to fire over any specific questions.

    Best regards,

    Dave C.

I have checked their website and they said:

" distance learning in July 2010 and January 2011 is £5,500 for the first year."

"Please note: You will be charged a tuition fee at the start of each year of study. Fees are reviewed each year, so you should budget for a small increase each time. In recent years, this has been 3-8 percent. Part-time fees do not include tailored careers support."

They didn't said how long the program usually takes but I can say it will be at least 5,500 * 3 = 16,500 which is far a way over my budget. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

Yes its true that Leicester is better as a university form overall prospective but that doesn't applies at the same degree to their MBA program........yet still its good option. By the way I'm not UK resident so my tuition fees is more than what you said.

    Thanks a lot :)

Thanks Dave, I have visited Henley website they are seems professional and reputable (some times website reflects how good the university is ;) ) but the problem that is the program length is 3 years (I want some thing like 2 years only) and the other thing is the tuition which is £16,795 that I can't afford.

Thanks every body, now I have to make may decision based on 3 criterias:

    1. Ranking: there is a lot of ranking, I have settle on (Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 2010) Business school rankings and MBA rankings from the Financial Times

    2. Accreditation

    3. Tuitions

    4. Program length

    Here what I end up:

    Option #1: Durham Business School
    1. Ranking: 74
    2. Accreditation: AACSB, Amba, Equis
    3. Tuitions: £12,640
    4. Program length: 2 Years
Note: number of enrolled in (2009) 494

Option #2: Bradford University School of Business
    1. Ranking: 89
    2. Accreditation: Amba, Equis
    3. Tuitions: £11,500
    4. Program length: 2 Years
Note: number of enrolled in (2009) 231

    Option #3: Leicester University
    1. Ranking: Not ranked (at least not in the first 99)
    2. Accreditation: Amba
    3. Tuitions: £13,500
    4. Program length: 2 Years
Note: number of enrolled in (2009) 7,118

You can see that Leicester have many students which can be interrupted in 2 different ways, first is that its good program so that students join this university, second is that its easy program so that students join it. To be honest I don't like to be one of other thousands of students because the quality of the support and the attention I'll get will be very limited due to the large number of students.

For me I like Durham, its MBA programs is the most reputable between them. I'll contact them to start my application process.

    Thanks everybody.......... ;)

Where do you currently reside and what country do you plan to work in after you graduate? It might make a difference. Also what are your career plans?

I live and work in Saudi Arabia, and I don't have plans to work outside Saudi Arabia. But I have noticed that university which have offices here provides MBA program with kind of courses (one course for one day per module) I really think this courses is useless and just to give the impression that they not totally online. More over the MBA fees they asking is very high.
