    Hello Everyone,

Does any have experience with WGU's MBA program?

Due to the nature of their degree, I'm not sure what to estimate in terms of workload for completion of courses.

I'm not looking for the easiest MBA out there, but I don't plan to kill myself for a non-AACSB accredited MBA, especially when tuition is by the term, not by the credit hour.

As a graduate of WGU (undergrad) and someone who did a lot of research before going for my MBA, I'd dissuade you from going to WGU to complete a MBA.

However, first I'll answer your question and then if you're interested in my reasoning you can ask for it. I'll provide answers via PM.

You can expect that the workload will be roughly equivalent to anywhere from 4 hours a week to 10 hours a week depending on your existing knowledge, skills and abilities and flexible such that if you can't work one week, no one will be up your rear about it unless you're approaching end of term, in which case everyone will be up your rear about it if you haven't finished your term deliverables.

I will also go on record as absolutely loving WGU for my undergrad as it was exactly what I needed, when I needed it and I had a great learning experience, so my statement in regards to the MBA isn't sour grapes.

    ITJD,
Can you explain why you feel that way about the WGU MBA? PM is fine.
I've just stared my undergrad program at WGU am looking beyond to an MBA. Obviously WGU was on the list.

    Thanks

I'm curious as to ITJD's reasoning as well, as I'm working on the BS-IT track myself and was considering the WGU MBA given its cost.

I can hazard a few guesses while we wait:

    1. No "name" recognition. WGU isn't prominent enough.
    2. No AACSB certification.
    3. Association with the "Certified MBA" exam, which is considered a questionable exam by some, and WGU's extensive participation in the exam's board possibly lending bias to the exam's development.

These are all valid points, but aren't necessarily going to affect every student. Just as there are NA/DETC MBA graduates doing nicely, I'm sure there are folks who've done quite well after obtaining a WGU MBA.

Guess we'll wait and see how the thread progresses. . .

And now, an answer to the OP's question

Right after finishing my last post, I had a PM waiting in my box. All I can say is the list I provided above would be a fair comparison to what I read.

As far as the OP's question: I would expect the WGU MBA-ITM to be as intense or nearly so as a typical MBA program. WGU asks its students, BS or otherwise, to try to commit 15-20 hours per week to the program. Most MBA programs expect lots of research and writing, so this one should be no different. I think a 4-10 hour a week estimate might be on the light side (I'm spending that much on my BS-IT now) -- I'd certainly think it could go as high as 10-15 hours per week (and possibly more during your capstone project!).
