My youngest daughter wants to be a teacher. She currently completed 27 hours. With all of the budget cuts, deficits, etc I do not know not think this is a growth field right now. I do not know about the future. I think she should do something in the medical field. Does anyone know the growth outlook for teachers in the future. My other daughter's best friend was valedictorian out of 450 students. She graduated and has her teaching degree/certificate and she is still working as a sub.

This is the most up-to-date information I can locate...it is from 2009. I do not believe the stats on here are totally correct, for I know of people with BA's, MA,s and PhDs or EdD who are unable to located work, thus moving into another field of work.

It should be noted the stats linked are for vo-tech (like shop class, etc.) teachers only.

As a former teen with hard-core aspirations having nothing to do with practacality.... let me say that it's nice that you show her the practical side of things. The US Department of Labor website is awesome. The Occupational Handbook (online) will provide the kind of information you (she) is looking for.
I think it's wise to show her sites like that one, and help her look through the choices. Explain what you see as some of the pros and cons. Help her understand what a work week is, and how X job compares to Y job. Discuss the educational requirement, cost to obtain training, etc. You are doing the right thing by being involved. But. I think that's almost as far as you go. To actually pick her career? That's a little too daddy-dearest. Help her eliminate bad choices from the list, let her choose.
