I know this is a DL site but I was curious if any of you knew of Spanish courses that are taught (preferably free) for LE. I don't mind driving but with this economy i don't think my office would be willing to pay for the course. If it's reasonable I wouldn't mind putting forth some of my own money.

I would prefer a butt in seat course that goes something like 1 week (Basic), 1 week (Intermediate), but I'm not oppossed to Dl either...any ideas?

FREE SPANISH LINKS on page two of this document.

Also, check with your local library. They may have free classes that meet weekly/bi-weekly (many public libraries do) or allow free access to certain language recordings/programs online. For instance, our library allows free access to some of the more popular language software programs.

soupbone: An absolutely excellent resource, albeit not free, would be the Michel Thomas (see michelthomas.com ) - I am using his cd's to learn french and I am thoroughly enjoying his fresh approach and ability to make it simple (not to mention, he stresses not to memorize!)

Thanks for all the links! This is a great start and I'm going to use a few of these for sure. I know a little Spanish but I want to get more involved in learning it. I appreciate it! :)

    Hi -

I found this while looking at HBCU sites for something else.

Not free, but not bad. $99.00 - Spanish for Law Enforcement. "La advertencia Miranda" and all the other stuff you'll need...

    Spanish for Law Enforcement

    Cheers :)

    My Bad...

    Hi

Sorry - I'm pretty sure I should have said "El aviso Miranda" when joking around. (Too late to edit). It's MY fault for using the wrong word - I'm sure the course-provider would use the right term. Hmmm...maybe I need the course! :)

Are you an LEO? If so, there should be some free courses within your state. In Texas we have a free state training website we use called Poseits.. It offers tons of classes online. I think the public can take them as well.

    Thanks I'll look into this!

I might see if there are universities offering Spanish online as well and just sign up to take classes. While the LE courses are a good start I do want to move to a point where I'm fluent in the language.

    I appreciate all the responses!
