The following is the AS requirements from EC:

Associate in Science at Excelsior College – 60 credits

General Education for AS – 9 credits in two areas and 6 credits in one area

    Humanities
    Social Sciences/History
    Math/Natural Science

Written English Requirement – 3 credits

    Information Literacy – 1 credit

Arts and Sciences – 3 credits

    Arts and Sciences/Applied Professional – 29 credits

An optional Area of Focus is awarded with 15 credits in a single discipline.
    ---------------

    Credit Currently Achieved:
    63 FEMA courses complete 1/2/10
    4 NFA courses Complete 1/5/10
    A+ (Computer Repair)
    N+ (Networking)
MCP XP PRO (Microsoft Certified Profesional)
    AP Lit
    ALEKS Beginning Algebra
    ALEKS Intermediate Algebra
    ALEKS College Algebra
    ALEKS TRIG.
    Straighterline Macro Econ
    Straighterline Micro Econ
    Straighterline Accounting I
    ....
    In the works:
    ALEKS Pre-Calc
    Straighterline Accounting II
    ------------

OK, it appears to me that I am in the following situation.

Humanities is nearly satisfied by my AP Literature (I got a 4)
Social Sciences/History is satisfied by my Straighterline Economics I and II
    Math is satisfied by ALEKS
So for Gen ED I need one humanity. Will English II from Straighterline work?

Written English Requirement – 3 credits (English Comp I from straighterline could satisfy this)

    Information Literacy – 1 credit

Arts and Sciences – 3 credits (An ALEKS Stats class should satisfy this)

Arts and Sciences/Applied Professional – 29 credits (FEMA through FCC or CCC, NFA, SL classes, IT certs, etc should satisfy this)

    SO TO SUM IT UP:

If I'm reading this correctly, all I should need is English I and II from Straighterline, ALEKS Stats, as well as an information literacy course from EC. Does that sound right? That puts me 10 credits away. Straighterline could be done this coming month, ALEKS could be done within the next two because I'm going to complete pre-calc first.

Any comments? Am I missing anything? Please post even if it's just to say "look OK to me".

Thank you guys so much! If this could work I'm so close, I cannot believe it!

If you feel you are close (within a year) of earning your AS enroll with EC and they will send you a 'checklist' showing credit granted and the area each credit was applied to. As you complete additional credits they will update this 'checklist.'

They can advise you whether additional credit you seek is approved towrds your AS degree.

I just don't want to send money to FCC and EC until I get some feedback about my assumptions. If my assumptions are correct, and the plan makes sense, then I will send EC and FCC some serious cash to get this ball rolling. The money I have to send to FCC to get 15 FEMA credits exceeds $1,000. I need to make sure my plan is solvent first. I know it's not for sure, but I need to develop some fairly certain expectations before I finalize this plan.

Thanks for the post, but I still need some input beforehand :(

This sounds to me like something you should go over with an admissions counselor at Excelsior. I'm not certain you will find the answers you need here.

They wont talk to me about it without applying :(. I'm just too concerned that I've got it all wrong to write them a check, but I may have to...

Well that sucks. Maybe you could pay only an admissions fee? I don't know how much that is, but I'd bet it's not refundable. Might be worth it just to find out. I did that at Capella and Walden and then finally decided on NCU. In each case I lost the admissions fee, but it was worth it.

It's only $75, but I wonder if they will help me figure out the FEMA/FCC situation even then.

When I called EC the other day thats what thay told me to do. It will cost you $75 and then you will have a offical report on what went where.

But unless I pay FCC the money for the FEMA credits they will not be reviewed. I don't want to do that until I know I'm going to use this plan and EC. Also, I think it's crappy that I have to pay before I can find out what they can offer me!

True, a $1000 is a lot of cash. Have you looked into TESC, they don't charge for that but their enroll is more.

Is one FEMA credit equal to one semester unit? If so, $67/unit is not bad provided EC takes them.

Both of you are dead on.

The problem with TESC is that although they take 25 towards a 4 year degree, they will only take 11 (or something really small) towards a 2 year degree according to a respected member of the forum (creationstory I think). It's not quite enough, so TESC is probably out.

The $70/credit (or whatever it is) isn't that bad (it's a little bad), it's just that I'm not paying until it's a sure thing. I'm willing, just not until I am 100% sure. And yes, 1 FEMA = 1 Credit in most cases. a couple are worth two, but I think you pay by the hour not the class. Could be wrong about that.

This is the closest thing I've ever had to a plan. This had better fly...

Once I rule out TESC as an option conclusively I think I will. It would be so much cheaper if I didn't have to pay FCC for the FEMA credits.

Somebody *cough* on the other forum *cough* said something about ACE favorably reviewing some of the FEMA classes recently. Is that true?
