    Hi,

I have been refereed to a university called "American Global International University" Miami florida. website: .:: AGIU ::. American Global International University, Miami, Florida

does any one know about this university? if this is accrediated and genuine?
when i google for "American Global International university" i can see two different websites with the university name.

can some one please guide me how to verify the university accrediation and the online/distance education programmes offered and if we can trust this website?

    thanks a lot!

They are not listed as accreditied on "Database of Institutions Accredited By Recognized U.S. Accrediting Organizations" at Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) (2010)

I was poking around on the site and some of the terms and wording seem a little odd. Almost like they were translated from another language pretty well, but not perfectly. Since Randell can't find a legitimate accreditation, I would be suspicious. Hopefully Dr. Bear will chime in on this one.

I'd be suspicious of any school with a .us domain name ... not because there's anything inherently nefarious about that domain per se, but because I've yet to see a legitimate school which uses it. (Here is where people post a dozen legit schools using .us domains just to prove me wrong. :p I'm not saying it's impossible, just saying, it would make me be suspicious.)

Also, their name seems a bit redundant: It's global AND international? (Then again, there's UMUC so, redundancy in the name isn't necessarily a dealbreaker either ...)

    From their FAQ:
"Q – Is AGIU an accredited university?
AGIU is a university, recognized by the state of Florida the proof of which is displayed in the site."
    Recognition != accreditation.

Here is AGIU's accreditation page ... it says they are accredited by IAC. On that page on IAC's site they have a list of the schools they accredit. However, when you look at the list, you may be surprised at who they have on there, such as: Argosy University, Baker College, Boston University, DePaul, Fort Hays State, Liberty, University of Liverpool, and on and on. Strangely none of these schools mention being accredited by IAC on their accreditation pages? IAC is also listed on this page on GetEducated.com: Unrecognized, Fake and Dubious Online College Accrediting Agencies | GetEducated.com

AGIU's address is listed on their contact page as:
    660 East Jefferson Street,
    Tallahassee, Leon County,
    Florida 32301, USA
    Tel. (001) 407 - 792 0740

That seems to be the same address as Equels Law Firm ... I noticed that the phone number for Equels has a different area code than the number AGIU provides. The 407 area code is not in Tallahassee, it is in a totally different area of Florida.

Perhaps someone (not me, I don't wanna get sued :p) wants to contact Equels to ask if this school is actually running in some capacity out of the same building? It certainly looks like a small building on Google Maps.

[Note to any lawyers reading this thread: I am not making any claims for or against AGIU, just presenting some facts to consider ...]

I wouldn't worry too much about lawsuits. Even the name is inept. I would bet money the school is overseas and posing as an American school

That is about the most horrid most millish sounding name for an online school ever.

They might be a great school, but really I know nothing about them and at this point don't really care to know :)
