Do HR people at universities look at your GPA?

Let's say two equally qualified degree holders were applying for the same low level university teaching position. Part-time adjunct, for example. One of them has a 3.95 GPA and the other has a 3.0. Would the person with the higher GPA have an edge? Do HR people generally care about that? I know that experience in the field is more important, but how important is GPA?

Do you have a low GPA and are trying to tell us something ;) I would like to think you experiences count more then a GPA. It is not like you are applying for your first job just out of college - right?

Is a D- OK? :) Actually, I have a very high GPA in my master's and so far in my PhD. So it's not an issue for me, just curious. And I have had many jobs, some I don't like to think about!

I am not sure about the the HR, but the some University does look at the undergudate GPA. Even though I have a master degree, but my undergrduate GPA was mediocre. Georgetown University accepted me into their progrman as non-degree seeking until I earn two courses with at least "B." The admission criterial is at least 3.0 for undergrduate degree. Despite the fact I rushed my ungraduate degree in 24 months while on active duty. Troy University issued two GPA's, accumulate GPA 2.76 (includes 2 F's), institutional GPA 3.18 (2 F's forgiven). I received F's because I was sent to South Korea for several months, and was not able to drop them on time due 8-10 week-courses.

So, there you go...I have low GPA's...nothing to hide.:D

But you were called into action. I would think that any school would forgive your not dropping the class properly. Not to forgive that would almost seem unpatriotic. And 3.18 is not bad at all.

You just have to take some steps for it not to be counted. I had the same issue with 3 F's dropping my GPA in the low 1.0s but I had a memo from the commander telling the edumacation center and the university that I was deployed to an area with no internet connection and serving my country bla bla bla and that's it. I didn't have to reimburse the tuition assistance portion and the university changed them to W's. I eventually transferred to another university and graduated with a 3.09 lol.
