    Hello-

I am looking for an online University that offers a doctoral degree in the Liberal Arts, or some call it General Studies in the US, Canada, or England.

    Check this one out.

    Harrison Middleton University

Excellent! I have not heard of them in many educational circles or research realms, but they seem ok. Only thing is they are not regionally accredited, but at this point, as long as they are accredited, they MIGHT do. Any others you know of, Sshuang?

This would not be for, at least this point in time, employment purposes, only for self enrichment, for I own my own business working as a tutor teaching the Humanities to High-school kids and College/University level individuals. But it might make a difference in the future.

Is it just me, or does a "doctoral degree in general studies" seem like an oxymoron?

Well, not so much an oxymoron, but I do wonder at the utility of such a degree.

I was thinking the same thing. If the OP actually wants more of an interdisciplinary degree, there is a list of such degrees here (although many/most of these are not offered via distance):

What could you do with such a degree? Would you earn it for a career or just for your personal interest?

I was thinking the same - a specialist of general stuff!

Cravenco, please understand we are not making fun of you or your idea. This board is the right place to post a question like that. You might not always get an answer you like, but you will usually get information that is useful.....uh usually, that is. :)

A smorgasboard RA PhD would be nice, one where you pick from an array of disciplines, something like an interdisciplinary studies degree with an option of dissertation, capstone or creative thesis depending on the focus . . . no more than $20,000 . . .and offered online with optional summer residencies. Maybe one day something like this will become a reality, but I'm not holding my breath . . .

I would do it for both. I own my own business teaching the Humanities to students via a tutoring program. But you never know the amount of business that might or might not come in. So it would be for both personal and professional.

This is a little off but UF has a PhD PhD in Classical Civilization. That is "humanities like". Also, I think the Union Institute & University has a build-your-own PhD Program. Check this out - Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies -
Welcome to Union Institute & University’s cohort Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies Program. We invite you to explore the pages on this site to learn more about the program’s mission and history, its academic structure, and its values and goals.

What industry do you work in or plan to work in? That really matters in a question such as this.

    Perry-

Thanks for the insight. The post in your link went in the wrong direct, but I understand the idea your were attempting to achieve.

I am straddling the fence with two Universities at this moment; Harrison Middleton University and Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies at Union Institute & University. But more likely I will focus on Harrison Middleton University.

Sorry guys, I did not give you an educational background on myself:

    BA English Lit.

    BA in General Studies

    MA in Humanities
