    Greetings All,

Based on everyone's wonderful advice. I applied for admission at Troy University's eCampus toady. Much to my shock, their application had a huge section about previous criminal charges. Unfortunately I do have a couple of those from about 6 years ago. :)eek:The very reason I want to become and addiction therapist) Hopefully, I will get accepted. Does anyone know if they can deny a student admission based on a criminal record?? Oh well, if not I guess I will have wasted $30.00. It wont be the end of the world.

What was done, was done. But I do not believe that your previous records cause you not to be admitted. If you are applying for those prestigious scholarships, yes that will certainly be a factor. But as a normal student I do not believe you will be barred from the university if you meet their academic criteria.

    Good Luck!

I agree, it's not going to hurt you.

    I'd take your money :-D

Just in case you do ever have trouble, expunging your record can be really easy depending on the situation and your state. I won't ask, just saying, you could be surprised, particularly if you got a deferral. In my state, most first time charges are dismissed after the deferal and then you just have to seal the record.
    Sorry for the unsolicited advise.

If you have certain charges you can be denied federal educational grants.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I didn't have a problem getting grants and student loans last year, so I think I will be O.K. I am working on an application for a pardon. This is just like having my record expunged. I have tons of paper work to get together, but the guy at the Governor's office thought I would have a pretty good chance at it. I hope so. I want to have that done by the time I get my degree. That's one of the reasons I work so hard to keep my grades at a 4.0, it will look better on my pardon application. If Troy doesn't accept me it will be there loss. I am, after all, a great student...not to tout my own abilities.

Good for you. You deserve a second chance. My money is on you really doing something great in the future. Nice work on that 4.0, I did it too and it is not easy!
