I got their reply that my credits are transferable & I can apply for their online degree. Worth it? Please reply asap as this is urgent. Thank you.

Worth it? Only you can decide that.

I meant if it's accredited & accepted world-wide. I live in Dubai & have no knowledge about overseas universities, so just needed info about them to decide whether I should go ahead. I don't want to find out after enrolling that it's fake or uncredited or whatever.

Peru State college is a very solid college. It is part of the Nebraska State College system which also includes Chadron State college and Wayne State college. In fact, i'm seriously considering Wayne state college for their MBA program. And in terms of tuition/costs, it can't get any cheaper than these colleges. So go ahead with them and goodluck. By the way, which program are you interested in?

It's an accredited school. It's accredited by NCACS (HLE), one of the regional accrediters in the USA: Peru State College accreditation

They are NCATE accredited too for their education programs. So yes, they are legit. My only slight concern is the name; when I first heard about it on these forums I assumed it was located in the country of Peru. But you can just put "Peru State College - Nebraska, USA" on your resume. :) (Not that there's anything wrong with schools in Peru of course!)

Nothing wrong with Peru State College. It's a solid state college in Nebraska. In fact, it was Nebraska's first college. How's that for established?

I like Peru State College, despite never having studied there.

By all accounts it's well-run, very friendly, helpful and responsive to its distance learning students. Tuition and fees have always been very reasonable.

It's one of the smallest public colleges in Nebraska in terms of on-campus enrollment. It's in a very rural town of 900 people and almost all of its students live in the dorms which have limited capacity. Ten or fifteen years ago there was serious talk in the state government about closing it.

Its administration responded by getting creative, creating a bunch of new online programs and Peru State kind of emerged as Nebraska's main DL provider. (NE is very big, has a low population density, so it has a built-in rural pro-DL constituency.) The school's enrollment surged with the new DL students, its finances improved and its programs and administration have started to win wider recognition. PSC's turned itself into one of the most dynamic colleges in the state, thanks in significant part to distance learning.

Here's a newspaper story about Peru State's recent success:

This was one of the colleges I was looking into about a month ago. In my confusion about where to go (and finding out I took WAY too many credits for my Associates/fin aid), I forgot about it. Glad the OP posted this.

Looks like they are getting even more creative. Went to their website and read this:

Looks like "can't get any cheaper" just got cheaper!!

This is fantastic news for me.

When I was taking my endless (or so I thought, lol) classes at my community college, no one thought to mention to me that the FAFSA financial aid counts all attempted credits. So those classes I withdrew from after the drop period, the incompletes, the incompletes that turned into "F's" - all are counted towards the 150% of credits needed for the degree program I was in. (In my defense of my own stupidity, I was going through some horrible health issues, coupled with financial and living conditions that were very trying). :(

So now I need to find a college that will both accept most my credits, and not cost an arm & a leg. I'll see how this turns out..

Oh gosh Deja vu!! I'm looking at teaching degrees which I enjoy & if I manage to complete my Bachelor's & Master's (at least) after 13 years of struggling (mostly financial because of a very sick mom), I would like to work as a Professor :) love teaching really. Would be the best. Glad my thread is helping you. Fingers crossed :)
Thank you to everyone else for good info :)

I just spoke with a distance coordinator. Price this fall will be $190 per credit but there are no fees. All finals are proctored. I wanted to attend two years ago but their Catsonline shuts down at 5, which is about 1 my time so it would not work. However, I was told they are replacing it with myPSC this fall so I am giving them a another look. Quick in answering my questions and that impresses me. They are an unknown gem in the distance learning world.

I just recently graduated from PSC. None of my exams were proctored.....not the first one.

"Yes, next fall all final exams will be proctored. I have attached some information regarding our current policy, which may help you. There are many choices for selecting an external proctor, and it is not as scary as it sounds! J Also, next fall our rate is going to be $190 per credit hour with no fees. Please let me know if you have any other questions." This is from Savannah from Peru that I got today.

    Thanks,

Well, Aquarius - I wish you success! Hope your mom is well - life really does get in the way, doesn't it?

I think I may have received some good news. Clovis Community College will accept 55 of my credits towards the AA in General Studies - and it's not too late to file an appeal about my fin aid denial. So I did, today, and I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat til I hear from them.

Then, hopefully, I'll finally decide on a four year college to transfer to right away. Hoping to get my bachelor's before I head into the old age home, lol.

Gosh.. you mirrored my sentiments lol!! I'm 31 already & the way things are going... I've signed up with Peru State College to apply but the page doesn't load after I sign in. Sent them a mail regarding that. Hopefully with transferred
credits, the program will shorten or if they can give me a fast track option.. *sigh* hope you get the fin aid. I've crossed my fingers for you
My mom, unfortunately, is getting worse :(.. don't know how much we're spending in dollars but it's a lot. Oh well, just waiting for a miracle :) who knows we might win a lottery & my mom may be touched by an angel & everything will be perfect :)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that your mom is getting worse. I've been there - it's so difficult... just lost a good friend, my ex-boyfriend, actually (we remained friends - can't believe he's gone) last week. He was in pain for so long, and had horrible, horrible lack-of-treatment for his ailments.

All of this takes a toll on us. Make sure you take care of yourself - the stress can make you sick (been there!)

I've been through both my parents' being sick - they're both gone now. I'm older than you, but a mom is always a mom - now my own kids are adults and worry about me!

If you ever feel the need to talk, or vent for that matter - you're welcome to PM me. :)

Did you try another browser? Sometimes there are quirks - some colleges don't have the best computer set up, too, I've noticed.

Good luck with everything - hopefully you'll have some good blessings sent your way! :)

Yeah, in my excitement with seeing the $122 per credit hour, I failed to see that is the on-campus rate.

Still, $190 is very good - and if they are dedicated to actually helping students, that goes a long way in my book. I'm so sick of having to spend so much energy following through on administrative errors, chasing down people who don't answer my voicemails, etc.

I just want to work on getting my degree!
