    Hi, Everyone.

I'm highly interested in enrolling in Fort Hays State University's Master of Liberal Studies degree in Political Science.

I'm wondering if any of you have enrolled that program or have taken political science classes online at this university? If so, what has been your experience like?

    Thanks,

    Bryan

If you're interested in a straight up PolySci degree, and not liberal studies, I've taken 3 poly sci courses through APU and loved them all.

Thanks for both of the replies; the syllabus link to FHSU was a big help. FHSU definitely seems like it demands much from their graduate students.

Also, I appreciate the suggestion to check out APUS. I've actually been considering getting a MA in poly sci from APUS, but earning the degree at FHSU will save me more than $4,000. So I'm trying to figure out if the extra costs associated with APUS are worth it.

I already have debt for one master's degree, and I don't want to take on too many more student loans, if I don't have to.

Fort Hays State University's Master of Liberal Studies

Stay away from the Fort Hays State University's Master of Liberal Studies degree at all cost. I am in the program worst mistake of my life. The course content is worthless and the workload is sometimes three times what it should. The instructors are the worst I have ever had

Please expand on how you arrived at this conclusion?

I just started taking courses with them. I wouldn't say it's worthless. However the 10 credits of liberal art coursework is questionable and I believe this coursework would not transfer to any other degree program. I have been able to transfer in 9 credits of previous coursework. The price is very reasonable. As far as the coursework, mine has been at the same level of my other instituions.

Their program does seem to be growing and they add more areas of concentration every year. I would also say that each discipline seems to have a limited number of faculty members that are dedicated to teaching in their respective areas of concentrations and this might make it harder to complete the courses in the area of concentration. However, in my experience, they have been very open to accepting other classes from accrediated universities, so there is a way around it. What is your area of concentration? If you are unhappy at FHSU, you might want to try WNMU.

I will be more specific! The core which is made up of ten credit is basically focused on philosophy, and supposedly information literacy, there is a course called "Ways of Knowing," and I have know idea what it was supposed to be about, even though I completed the course.

The information literacy class was a collection of busy work and worthless tasks. There are endless group assignments. I did all the work, they received my A. The content had nothing to do with information literacy.

I would say it is beyond worthless. It is cheap, but you get what you pay for. Their professors seem to have pretty good backgrounds, but the courses are ridiculous. Literally!

So true. I am kicking myself for wasting money on this drivel.

A graduate degree is about research and scholarship. This program is about group projects and busy work. I would rather spend my time writing than taking exams and doing odd projects.

My entire undergrad was done at FHSU. While I had a few instructors who left a lot to be desired, the vast majority were quite good; not to mention helpful and friendly. I have no reservations about recommending FHSU.

I enjoyed my time at Fort Hays (five semesters). If things don't work out at Liberty I'll go back and finish (BGS). I can't speak on the grad courses but my undergrad classes were solid.

Maybe FHSU should drop the core classes and let MLS students pick 10 hours in graduate electives.

The MLS involves various disciplines. Maybe some programs are better than others. If you are not interested in philosophy and globalism, and whatever "information literacy" is suppose to be, I would look elsewhere.

I hope you all are listening. I wish I could post the emails from my peers. You would get first hand accounts of their nightmarish expereinces.
