    Hello,

I am currently looking to find a good affordable school were I can earn my Associate in Applied Science in Human Services totally online. I have looked at some schools but I am looking for a more cost effective option than University of Phoenix or Kaplan. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and I look forward to the replies. I plan on using federal pell grant money and can apply for students loan if necessary just think Kaplan and University are way too expensive. Thanks and hope everyone had a good memorial day.

Would one of these TESC degrees work for you?
Thomas Edison State College | AAS Credit Distribution
Thomas Edison State College | Associate in Science in Public and Social Services

thanks for the suggestions, I will take a look at those schools any other options are greatly appreciated. I also am not sure but dont think thomas edison would work for me because it says on their website that I must be currently working in the field already and I am not currently working in the social services or human services field so that could be a problem I have no college experience but have decided I just need to do something to further my education so figured human services looked like a good field to go into. I look forward to the suggestions and thanks in advance to all who reply. Hope all are having a great week thus far.

remember that your degree title doesn't have to match your career goal exactly; also consider sociology and related fields in your degree search.

Not sure where you are located but check with local community colleges. A lot of them will offer this degree. I will try and look and find some for you this evening but the only one I know about is Bachelors (which I am getting right now :) )

Social work involves government employment. If I understand correctly, that could be a problem if your degree is DETC (although it shouldn't be!).

    This is not necessarily true.

Not true. There are so many various aspects to Human Service aka Social work and many private non profit organizations that have no issues with a distance learning degree.

One of the biggest employers in Texas is Nursing Homes. Most have one or two Licensed Social workers on staff and they make in the mid to high 30’s. It’s something to do with using federal funds.

IMO, you shouldn't worry about a specialized AA. Just get a generic AA that you can use to transfer into a BA or BS.

An AA won't make that much of a difference in the job market, anyway. You really need to get at least a bachelor's and possibly a master's to get a decent paying job in the field of human services.

That reminds me of the article linked a while back with the 10 worst degrees/jobs combo, with number one being social worker.
