    Dear all,

Greetings to all, I discovered this forum by web and its my first post here.

I have completed 4 years Bachelor (120 credits) in Computer Science from Pakistan about 5 years ago. Than I traveled an other place and settle down there. Where I am living, employers etc even don't know my country's name and as well, its getting hard time to get in education too.

I am very much interested to get an American degree which will definitely accepted here.I am reading this forum since yesterday where I read about BIG three only that accepts total 120 credits towards a bachelor degree.

I need your help and guidance how to proceed towards getting degree from BIG three, which one would cost less and accept my all credits for a bachelor degree. It will be great if some one give me an idea of cost, procedure how to apply for this type of degree and how long it will take me to obtain second (American) bachelor degree.

    Thanks to all in advance.

I am not sure why you are not trying to go through one of the well respected degree equivalency services in order to demonstrate that you degree from Pakistan is equivalent to an American (or whatever) degree.

I think his difficulty is not that the degree is equivalent, it's more that he's finding that his employers do not respect the degree, due to prejudice against degrees from certain foreign countries; if that's the case, even if he states on his resume that the degree is "ECE evaluated as equivalent to etc etc..." it wouldn't necessarily help his chances.

So it sounds like he's wondering if there is a way, given the fact that he already has a bachelor's degree, to quickly earn one from an American school so that employers will respect it.

I'm not sure exactly how earning a second bachelor's degree works. Brief research indicates that you would need to do another 2 years (60 credits) to earn a second bachelors. If that's the case, why not do a Master's degree instead? There are several low cost options available.

I agree. As long as you can find schools that will accept the foreign bachelors degree, this would be the way to go. If it will take 2 years to get an American bachelors, why not invest that into a masters which will probably take the same amount of time.

I would think that a master’s degree would be the best way to go. Heck a lot of Americans get overseas degrees just so they can get into an American masters program. What school did you attend in Pakistan? Where they on the level?

Thanks so much guys. I appreciate your understanding and inputs. You got me, problem is not degree equivalency etc, sadly, where from I am as I explained above, some parts of world people thinks that we are all uneducated. Anyhow, I am not worry about these things, Life is name of "keep walking".

Thanks again for your advises, I am fully agree that the master degree is best option to go, but I am very much interested in MBA-IT, as long I have searched distance universities etc, is not a low-cost option to go with. So, my plan is, having a good Job is must for pay my study expenses. Just to share with you guys, I lost one opportunity recently just for that Manager of company was not convince with my Bachelor degree. I did pass Interview, they sent me e-mail, Although you did good in Interview but "Job Requirements" is minimum a "Bachelor degree" while the degree you have, does not appear to standard Bachelor degree. Pity that I have Bachelor degree from "Punjab University" which is biggest University of Pakistan, plus all transcripts verified from University, and education government of Pakistan.

By the way, no problem for all above. What I want, if that the way to go with obtaining a second bachelor degree with-in short period of time, then this will definitely enhance my Job future, meanwhile securing a good job will help me to proceed with my MBA-IT.

I was reading on Char Oak, Thomas Edison and Excelsior that I can apply for all of 120 credits as transfer. is that true? some one can guide me the process? I have sent emails for information but didn't get any response from any one yet. Is that possible while I have degree from country like Pakistan?

    All comments are much appreciated.

Since you have a bachelors degree already (at least that is the way I read your post) you can not apply any of those credits to a second degree. To earn a second degree from the big three requires you to earn another 30 semester units plus meet other degree requirements. You could earn some of these credits by challenge exams.

Or as suggested go for a masters degree instead.

It sounds like getting an American bachelors degree would be cheaper if you did it that way.

I feel your pain. I have a BA from a top school from my country but that means shit for most of the world - most people think Brazil is basically the Amazon and a bunch of naked women on the beach and would laugh at the concept of a good brazilian school.

I think this may not always be the case.

Some schools have good credit transfer policy. If the person with the foreign degree wants to study for another bachelors in the same field then some universities accept up to 90 out of 120 required or 75%.

Also Big 3 I heard accept all the credit , they will ask to have the degree evaluated by ECE or WES or their own evaluation.

If the course by course comprehensive report will indicate that credit is equivalent to US RA credit etc there is good chance.

To be very honest, and being a Pakistani, i can confirm that a 4 years (120 credit hours) degree from Pakistan is not regarded as equivalent to the UK or USA bachelor degrees. The reasons :

In Pakistan Education System, u have to study some religious, national language and histroy subjects which are not considered to be a part of the American or British Education system. These course normally comprises of 3x3=9 credits and in some case 12 credits. I have similar experience where my degree was not accepted as the entry for the Masters degree in the UK and USA universities. Equivalency stated that my degree was 108 credits instead of 120.

Now, i started a top up from UK (direct entry to final year) and will be graduated in Aug/Sep soon.

What i advice you Mr. Royal Prince is to improve your current qualification, and secondly being a gradute of Punjab University (myself), i never faced any difficulty by applying to foriegn companies. I work in a Multinational and highly regarded for my qualifications.

How do you have time for school when you spend 14 hours a day doing capoeira, and all of the women look like Nataniele Ribiero? :D

I'm actually surprised you have that problem, I guess its because I know a lot of Brazilians. Based upon those that I know, I wouldn't doubt at all that Brazilian education was superb.

True for many UK bachelor degrees but in the USA these type courses are required to meet the general education requirements of a bachelors degree.

Engineering degrees from Brazil are well respected in the US aerospace industry. Many people in the USA would be surprised to know that Brazilian designed and manufactured aircraft are flown by several USA airlines and 90 airlines world wide.

Has someone specifically told you that your degree in Computer Science does not meet a job criteria? If not, how can you be sure that is the problem?
No matter what path you choose- master or bachelor's degree, you are going to spend time and money. Before you make that decision, you should be very certain you have assumed correctly.

Since I am unfamiliar with the Computer Science field, maybe someone here who works in that field could help you assess your qualifications. There may be something else that is missing from your resume? Just a thought. Good luck to you.

I have a friend with a similar situation. His Bachelor is from Russia so he wouldn't get even an interview here in Canada. He sent his BS to WES for a course by course evaluation and then sent it to Excelsior College. He had some Microsoft certifications so that scored him some extra credits.

You cannot apply for another computer science degree due to Excelsior policy but you can apply for an IT degree. The issue is that if some of your courses are older than 10 years then Excelsior won't take them.

Also, don't count on getting the 120 credits transferred to the new degree. WES can be picky with schools and might give you less credits. Also, Excelsior might object to some credits due to time issues.

A very good point - in the USA your resume is probably more important than your degree (unless you are a recent graduate).
