I have been thinking about starting the BS Business Management from Penn Foster, Business Management Bachelor of Science Degree - Penn Foster College after I finish my AS in Accounting. Most of my credit should roll over from the As to the BS. When done with these I want to try to get all my credits over to TESC and work on my BS in Business (if there around). I feel like if I am going to take classes from PF I might as well get a degree from them as well. Will two degrees from PF look good or bad on my resume? Will anyone care as long as I have the bachelors from TESC? My other question for everyone out there that attended Penn Foster is how long did it take you to finish a semester, It has been taking me less than a month with the proctored exams. Is this normal?
You are right to be concerned about the NA degree. My recommendation....don't do the NA degree. Enroll in a BS/BA program through Thomas Edison State College and start hitting the CLEP/DSST and FEMA courses. Then enroll in LSU independent study courses for the rest. Money in the bank.
I do not think I would do that great at the cleps. Its only taking a month a semester with Penn Foster and out of the first two semesters only one class has not been ACE reviewed so I am happy with the pace I am going, 6 ACE reviewed classes a month(not bad). The down side to all this is I will end up with classes I will not need for TESC and I will have to sign up and take a few more classes with PF to fill the gaps. I was just wondering if I should start taking the exact classes I need, or would the two degrees I would end up with from PF be of any real value.
I posted this in your other thread: If you are looking for a place that is less expensive than TESC, The University of Wyoming has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, tuition is less than $100/credit. If you transfer in as a senior, the total cost will be about $3,000 for all of your classes... as opposed to about $2000 just in enrollment fees for Thomas Edison. Have you looked into taking any exams (CLEP, DSST)? They average out to about $33/credit and are accepted by most colleges, including UofWy. Also, you can take inexpensive community college classes from Clovis Community College ($225.00/6 credits) to fill some lower level requirements.
I would only take the PF courses that are ACE evaluated and then transfer to TESC. A lot of the CLEP/DSST exams aren't very hard at all. Have you tried one yet?
I took and passed several without even studying. Analyzing and Interpreting Literature is an easy one. If you can read and write in English (which it looks like you can), you can pass this one without studying.
I agree with AV8R that you should switch to an RA degree - why take a risk that your PF credits may not transfer to an RA college. You will find an DETC degree limiting in some circumstances. As pointed out there are low cost options for obtaining almost all the courses you need at colleges such as Clovis and LSU or through CLEP and DSST testing.
