Searching for an inexpensive DBA program, I found somebody suggest Charles Sturt University (Australia). Pls help me:

    - Is this a good / accredited university. How can we compare it with a accredited university in USA or Euro?

    - Anybody attended any class there pls share your evaluation about the quality of their teaching and mentoring.

    - I expect the total cost purisuting a DBA there will be around USD12,000. The officer in the university mailed to me that it is belong to each student's situation. So is USD12,000 enough?

    Tks so much.

Charles Sturt is a regional university in Australia and is government run. All universities in this country are heavily controlled by government. There is not the great disparity between universities here, like the US. Local students at Charles Sturt have their uni bill picked up initially by the government like all other local uni students. Government accreditation is a heavy onus to be met. CSU meets it.

It is a newer university and, as a new kid on the block, does not have the prestige of some of the older universities that have been around a couple of hundred years. If you are not into the academic pecking order here, nobody cares. The degrees are good quality and useful for employment.

The university has distance learning students in the US and Canada.

I doubt it is that cheap. It is safer to probe further and have them send you a sample estimated fees. The universities in Australia, besides the Group of 8 which will take you up to $200k, are reasonable priced. But US$12k seemed to be a bit too low an estimation.

If I understand their site correctly, the Charles Sturt DBA is 128 "points":

"To be awarded the Doctor of Business Administration, the candidate must pass all subjects (64 points) and the thesis (64 points)."
Doctor of Business Administration at Charles Sturt University

According to this PDF, the cost for the DBA program (for "offshore (distance)" students) is "$3,900 (16pt)":
    http://www.csu.edu.au/division/internat/downloads/offshore_fees_list.pdf

    So, 128 / 16 = 8 ... $3,900 * 8 = $31,200AUS ... =approx $27,590US

The group of 8 are way overpriced. There is not a significant difference in quality that would justify such a cost differential, but it is consistent with their arrogance. I suspect that 12 thousand is a little cheap. Most post graduate subjects, depending on the university, are around 1200 -1500 AUD for local students.

I would not think that there would be a great deal of change out of $30,000, but inquire as student numbers may sometimes be more important than achieving a high return. See what you can negotiate.

Here is their answer to me:

"As a Doctorate can take anywhere between 2 to 8 years to complete, we are unable to provide a costing for the complete program. The current tuition fee for this course is AUD$3900 per 16 point subject.

Once you have spoken to the Course Coordinator and discussed your proposal you will have a clear indication of how long it may take for you to complete and therefore be able to calculate the approximate costs associated with this course.

The DBA will take a minimum of 4 years part-time study. There are 4 coursework research subjects prior to undertaking the thesis component of the degree."

    So i supposed the total cost for the coursework subjects will be AUD3,900 x 4 = AUD15,600 # USD12,000.

The question here is how much does it cost for paying fee to the mentor to finish the thesis. I don't think making the thesis youself will cost the same as a coursework subject. I will check with the school officer.

Anyway, thankyou so much for your information.

Cost has increased quite a bit. It was a very good deal five years ago. However, I am a DBA grad and was happy with my advisor and their committment to academic quality.
