I found two old threads on this subject (from 6 years ago). Lots of dead links! I thought perhaps it would be worth a repeat of this topic, as I would bet that there are new programs out there. I hope that is allowed?

I am wanting to learn how to write grants. Two jobs that I was otherwise qualified for recently required successful grant writing experience. I have none. I want to get some! I've worked for agencies that got grants. I've never seen or written a grant proposal, nor have I administered a grant once received. I've Googled, and feel no more informed than I was when I started trying to find information.

So, I'm looking for training. And I hope you all can help.

    1) I need to know HOW to write a grant.

    2) I need to know HOW and WHERE to find the grants so that I can apply.

If you know of current DL grant writing training, and training in finding grants for which to apply, please share! Free is best. Cheap is second best. Can't afford expensive!

    Pointers and advice appreciated!

First place would be to check your local community college. Usually they offer a course on grant writing, either for credit, or as a community ed class. I've seen both online and on-campus courses offered.

Also, there is a "Grant Writing for Dummies" book that I hear is very good.

I'm interested in hearing about this as well. For me, I'd like to know about any graduate level classes. I know about this one at La Tech but they don't offer it all the time. It also requires an undergrad class in technical writing.

    School of Literature and Language

565/465: Specification, Bid, Grant, and Proposal Writing. 0-3-3. Preq. ENGL 303. Writing specifications, bids, grants, and proposals; emphasis on audience analysis, organization, and writing style. (G)

I also found these CE classes offered through the University of Georgia. See bottom of page.
    Grant Writing

Fort Hayes State University offers a course in University Grant Writing
Grant Training - Fort Hays State University

University of Illinois offers a seminar class online for grant writing as well.

    Any others?

Can the one at UGA be completed online? It appears those courses are only available at satellite campuses around the state.

If you love to write, are highly organized, and enjoy working for a good cause, bid writing may be the perfect career for you. There are various organizations who offer courses for bid writing.

There are many training courses that are available online. There is a lot of demand for bid writers these days and people can learn how to write bids effectively by signing up for these courses.
