I can find a few bachelor's online programs from well-known colleges with traditional schools, but usually not economics or math. Illinois at springfield has math, but unfortunately just canceled their online econ program -_-. Does anyone know of well-known (I'm looking to stay away from things like pheonix/strayer/ashford) universities or colleges with distance bachelor's programs in Mathematics, Economics, or (preferably) both? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I believe cuny (city university of new york) has an online program in economics or a blended econ program. Sorry no links..from a BB.
The University of London offers a Bachelors of Science degree in Math and Economics: Mathematics and Economics - University of London - LSE - External System - Key points
Have you considered doing a Liberal Studies degree then designing the program around Econ and Math? A lot of large state schools offer the liberal studies degree via distance. I know The University of Oklahoma has a program like this, as do numerous other large state schools.
CUNY only offers a Bachelor of Arts in communication and Culture and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. SUNY/ESC, however, does offer a BS in Applied Mathematics as well as a BS in Business, Management and Economics. Each allows one to personalize their concentration. http://esc.edu There are, also, http://charteroak.edu offers a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Mathematics (requires you to transfer in some of the Major courses requirements) and http://tesc.edu offers a BS in Accounting and a BA in Mathematics. Both of these schools are State schools, however, they are both completely online. The nice thing about them is that they allow almost 100% of your credits to be transferred in (minus, I believe a 3-credit capstone for Charter Oak, but am not sure about Thomas Edison), which could save you a ton of time and money if you choose your credit options wisely.
TESC also offers a BA in Economics - it has 27 free electives so you could include a bunch of math courses. http://www.tesc.edu/3503.php At TESC you could also earn a second BA by doing another 30 units. I do not know if you could do a double major at TESC. Athabascau offers a degree in political economics http://www.athabascau.ca/calendar/page03_05_09.html
wow, confusedstudent, you could be my twin....i've been on the same hunt! i could have posted that! if you plan to do econ in grad school, remember that they want more math than anything...they like to see stuff like intermediate micro/macro, but that's not a big requirement. the bigger requirements are for linear algebra, the whole calc sequence, maybe some analysis, statistics, etc. utah state, i believe, is bringing their econ program online. and one of the indiana university online schools is starting to offer math.
I can heartily recommend the U of London Math/Econ program if you have the discipline to study on your own. LSE is the lead institution and their Honours degrees in Econ are as good as getting a MS in Econ at most other schools. It's also correct as pointed out in the previous post that doctoral econ programs just care if you can handle the mathematics, so if you have a math undergrad and intermediate micro/macro you should be OK.
yep, utah state has math AND econ.....go for it! Mathematics Education - Degrees/Programs - Regional Campuses & Distance Education - distance.usu.edu
