    Good morning all,

I'm looking for a Somali class online. CC level or non-credit would be nice as I don't need the class for credit.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry but I don't understand what your asking for. A class from a Somali university? Somali history? Somali literature?

Somali the language. I have been searching for him, but have found nothing.

Tons of resources for Swahili (which I may learn one day) and even a few for Zulu, but alas, I have found nothing remotely useful for Somali. I'll keep trying.

Note, my research suggests that English, Arabic and a variant of Swahili enjoy wide use in Somalia. Are you planning on going there? Language Learning with Livemocha | Learn a Language Online - Free! is the best free language resource I have found anywhere and is something I use myself. Alas again, nothing for Somali.

Wow, this is very cool! Thanks for the link.

As for learning Somali online, perhaps this resource will work: Learn Somali Online - Write or Speak in Somali Language Exchange. I know nothing about this site, but supposedly it received a positive write up in WSJ, albeit this was eight years ago.

    Best,

Thank you very much for your help, guys! I suspected that it wouldn't be easy to find a formal class for Somali online. Swahili is a different story because it's an African lingua franca with many speakers in comparatively well-to-do countries.

Maniac, I'm not planning to go to Somalia, my interest is purely academic. I work in language assessment and have been involved in some Somali projects. I'm just interested in the language.
