My signature states that I am pursuing a BA with a double major in Psychology and Sociology with Excelsior. I will finish my AA with them, however, after some reassessment of my situation, I plan on taking a few less exams than I originally imagined and, instead, taking more online classes.

In short, it might be possible afterall to meet a residency requirement of at least 30 credits from one institution, making Excelsior quite possibly not my best option anymore (but at least, an option that is always there if need be).

I have checked out WNMU, UofWy, Peru State and Fort Hayes- they all have great prices, low enough to finish a BA residency with 100% of my expenses covered by tax credits... HOWEVER :'( none of these schools offer both Psychology and Sociology, each offer one or the other or neither.

What I now have come to you with is a request for information. Are there any other schools that fall into the same price range in which I could have my desired double major online?

    Looking For:
    - Online
    - Located in the U.S.A.
    - Regionally Accredited
    - Tuition < $200/credit
    - Double Major Psychology/Sociology available

    Thanks!

    Nice find. Thank you.

As far as I can tell, nonresident online students do have to pay out-of-state tuition, and since their Psychology degree is a BS and Sociology degree is a BA, I'm not sure if they would offer a double-major. If either of those factors are true, it would rule them out. I will send an email to them and see what they say.

The North Carolina higher ed system has a nice (big) listing of all their distance learning programs. Did I mention that it's BIG? If you're looking for a degree/cert program from an RA B&M school this is probably one of the top 3 places to look.

Park University offers an online BS in Social Psychology with four concentrations available in SOC or PSYC (they also offer separate BA programs in Sociology and Psychology, not sure if a double major is a possibility).

Park University is RA, offering both campus and online programs. The school is located in Missouri.

At $315/credit, the tuition is a bit higher than your stated criteria, however, this school might be a good option for you.

    Best of luck!

Thank you- yes, this is out of my price range, but a good suggestion. I'm quite picky, for sure, but appreciate your help. If I can't find what I'm looking for, I may either have to bend my criteria or stick with Excelsior.

There are several (including Columbia College) online bachelor degree offerings in either psychology or sociology; however per your inquiry, seemingly very few offering the double major.

I would contact this school to see if they will allow you to double major in both subjects. An alternative might be to complete a BA or BS in one subject, and take a second bachelors degree in the other (at the same school or a different one).

I know, it has been bugging me! Why oh why?! All of the Psychology programs and all of the Sociology programs I have looked up have at least 9 credits of cross-cutting core requirements (Satistics, Research and Writing, Social Psychology), and an incredible amount of cross-cutting elective credit options, so why should it be so hard to find a double major?!

Wow, thanks! This is the best looking one so far. Tuition is nice (more than what I hoped, but I know I ask for a lot), both Soc/Pych programs are comprehensive, they have 8-week courses (I'd much rather keep my schedule to 2 courses at a time, even if they are double the work per week), and a college I have actually heard of before (lol, and many people will THINK they have heard of before when they I tell them the familiar-sounding name )... this one has some real potential. I will shoot an email over to them about double majoring.

From their website, YES! I can double major at Columbia College. So far, they are the reining champion.

why do you have to double major ?
why can't you do sociology at a B&M and then do psychology 2nd major at Excelsior ?
you can apply a lot of your credits to the 2nd major at Excelsior, take the Psychology GRE for almost all the other credits and get the psych 2nd degree in no time for practically no cost

I am aware of that possibility, but "practically no cost" is far from true. Once you get your first Bachelors, you can no longer use the American Opportunity Tax credit to cover your college expenses. Therefore, I would be paying Excelsior's enrollment and graduation fee with no reimbursement of any sort.

The reason I am thinking of jumping ship from EC is because I like the idea of completing each component of the psych major for a much more comprehensive understanding, more research and writing practice, rather than just filling my head with a bunch of facts and circling some choices on a piece of paper. If I do it this way, by taking classes, EC no longer would have the financial nor time benefit that my current plan affords it.

Since I have 2 years of credit left to obtain, I might as well focus them in two areas and complete a double major. It would look neater, also, on a resume and on my wall than two have 2 Bachelor's from two different colleges. A second bachelor's degree isn't completely out of the question, but I would rather it be a business degree (which I may do with Excelsior), and only if I am absolutely sure that I will not pursue a Master's.

Nothing wrong with two bachelors. You might want to take a look at Northwestern State University Louisiana. You can do a BA in Psychology and then do their business degree. NSULA is a state school, AACSB accredited and fairly inexpensive. Instead of going for a double major in Psych/Sociology you would be well served working on the the Psych degree and the Business degree. Use your electives from the Psych degree to complete a good portion of the business degree. If you discuss the plan with the school you might be able to carry over some credits and not have to complete the usual 30 or so credits for another degree.
