    Hello guys!!

Hope you all are doin great!
I have been on this forum last year and enrolled in an online degree. Glad!!

So I now I need more information on the cheapest degree for international students. I am looking for a good place for my sister.

Right now, she doesnt have any part time job and just hanging around. Besides, she isnt sure what to study. So, keeping all the things in mind I have recommended her to start with starighterline to get a few credits. I find this is the cheapest and better instead of wasting time. All your opinions are welcome.

Is there any college where the fees is the same for international students as well? and what are the other options other than starighterline? and how to earn the credits somewhat faster?

I am relying on you guys!!
Help me out with making my decision for her else she will just end up having fun and earning nothing. Im very worried of her future.

    Regards,
    sugarfly.

I think Fort Hays State University is a good option. I'm not sure it's the cheapest but at $168.00 per credit hour it really is affordable. (Here is a pdf with the fees: http://fhsu.edu/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=12884906035 - see the right part of the table (Virtual College Tuition & Fees) for the cost of distance education.)

FHSU offers these undergraduate majors by distance:

    Business Communication
    Education-Early Childhood Unified
    Education - TEAM Honors
    Elementary Education
Elementary Education TEAM K - 6 with Special Education Minor
    General Studies
Information Networking & Telecommunications (Computer Networking and Telecommunications)
Information Networking & Telecommunications (Web Development)
    Justice Studies
    Management
    Management-Concentration in Human Resource Management
    Management Information Systems
    Marketing
    Medical Diagnostic Imaging
    Nursing (RN to BSN)
    Organizational Leadership
    Political Science
    Sociology
    Technology Leadership
    Tourism and Hospitality Management

    see: http://fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/degrees/bachelors/

I hope some of these majors are possible options for your sister. I'm curious, by the way. Where did you enroll?

Most course fees are the same for out-of-state or international students.
Also are you looking for a bachelor or graduate degree? (judging by the straightliner I suspect the former)

But I have another question for you. How is the DL market actually in Japan. Is there any legitimate institution offering "true" DL, i.e. that you don't have to live in Japan to do it? I got a friend of mine who would be very interested this (just preparing for his JLPT2 etc).

The University of London (UK) offers a variety of degrees
    http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/prospective_students/undergraduate/index.php
For example the BS in International Relations costs around $4,000 plus books (and local exam fees).
However these exam based degrees tend to be tougher than US degrees.

Otherwise I would recommend Excelsior BSLS (you can take courses at any RA school or earn lots of credit through challenge exams.

University of South Africa (UNISA) offers very inexpensive degree programs, both at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Best of luck to you and your sister.

In that case she should persue some general education courses in subjects such as englsh, math, history, and humanities. Check some college catalogs to see typical general ed requirements. If your sister also lives in Japan perhaps you could lever that experience into credits (langauge course or portfolio credit).

By talking gen ed courses she might find a suject area that is attractive for not only earning a degree in but also to follow as a career.

She could also study for and take CLEP and DSST exams for credit.

CLEP has test centers in Japan

DSST has test centers in Japan

    Thankewe So much fellows.
You guys are always a great help!!

I called the japan CLEP japan center. And they told me that they will charge another $128 other than the CLEP exam fees which is $72.

@Ian.. I am actually enrolled with the UOL external degree. And satisfied!
But the level of english is quite high for my sister to be able to apply there.

@Mintaro.. I think that option can be cheaper than CLEP here.

That is still a great price for three semester units - there are some bargains in the USA (for example Clovis charges $125 for up to 7 semester units http://www.clovis.edu/TuitionandFees.asp ) however expect to pay upwards of $300 plus proctor fees for three semester units at most USA colleges or universities.

A typical USA degree requires 120 semester hours or credits with around 30 being required at the upper division level (i.e. courses that are beyond introductory level and that usually require one or more prerquisite courses. Colleges that accept CLEP and DSST usually grant 3 semester units of learning. Some colleges grant upper division credit for some DSST exams.

A semester unit is based on 15 hours of classroom study (some colleges use the quarter unit system where a quarter unit is based on ten hours of classroom study)

I looked at FHSU and their tuition costs are $168 per semester unit
    http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/admissions/tuition/
this is a great cost compared to most US colleges and universities.
