I did a search on this school here, but was coming up with threads from a few years ago. Is anyone enrolled in this school or has anyone finished from this school? I'm just wondering how their online program is. I know the college, itself, is ranked high with U.S. News & World Reports but I'm wondering if that would also mean that their online college is also good, academically.

I'm looking at majoring in History. Right now, I'm enrolled with AMU, but am not too impressed with them. Also, I'm looking at a major change and Columbia's program for History looks more appealing to me than AMU's. Currently, I'm majoring in International Relations, but after International Relations I, I don't really feel like this is a field I'd like to continue in. I've considered a General Studies degree just because I like the idea of learning a variety of things, but I've heard that sometimes people see it as a degree in indecisiveness and some people see it as a well-rounded education. If it helps, I'm considering pursuing either a M.Div. or M.Th. later on from a seminary.

But, I digress. So, are there any opinions out there of Columbia College?

In that Columbia College’s online campus is the web-based instructional program model of a traditional B&M college with a far longer history than AMU … might be a persuasive consideration for a prospective student (?). Columbia’s online undergraduate tuition is also reasonable at $220 /credit hour. Nonetheless, I can’t provide response as to whether or not Columbia’s online support, curriculum design and/or instructional quality are superior to that of AMU.

Wife is currently doing a bachelor's program from there. She's pretty pleased. The delivery system isn't as good as blackboard, but it's not terrible. Proctored exams, just so you know.

I wouldn't steer anyone away from it.

Thanks for posting this. I'm considering them myself.

FYI, the high ranking they receive isn't part of the MAIN ranking of colleges that most people refer to. It is a list of regional Master's degree programs, of which Columbia College is in the top tier. That said, it is still quite impressive and something that no fully online school can boast.

Columbia College (MO) isn’t a fully online university, e.g., “Founded in 1851, Columbia College’s traditional residential campus is a private, four-year liberal arts and sciences institution, consistently ranked among ‘America’s Best Colleges’.” If chosen, hopefully it will be a good fit for you. :)

Columbia College only requires that 24 of your credits be obtained by them. One of the shorter in-house requirements that you'll ever see. They do, however, require that 50% of your total credits come from classes rather than exams or ACE transcripted sources.

I know SOMEONE on this board must have taken a few classes with them. I would like to know more about their course structure, and just how much work it would be to take 2 classes in their 8-week semesters.

Mrs. CargoJon takes 2 x 8 week classes at a time. She's a stay at home mom but with an 11 month old at home can be a full time job in and of itself, so she sometimes struggles with enough time to get everything done.

That being said, their delivery is good (the online math program is pretty annoying but that's only used a very few classes overall) and if you're willing to do the work and keep up with it, I don't think 2 x 8 week classes is unbearable.
