So I just happened upon this forum. Lots of good information here. I already have my AS in Social Sciences. I just started my BA with DeVry in January. I have already completed 8 units and am just about done with 6 more. The only problem is they are about to raise the already overpriced rates. I need to stop spending so much on loans because my future will be screwed if I don't. Do you guys have any ideas of a better online university that I should transfer to? Are there still CLEP or DANTEs I could take? I really need help.

I would have a look at Excelsior College. Excelsior allows students to transfer or test out of all the requirements for a BA or BS degree in Liberal Studies (with the exception of a 1 credit course in Information literacy). Excelsior also offers majors (e.g. Psychology, English, etc.), however, in this case one usually ends up needing to take some classes in addition to the CLEPs and DANTES exams. Excelsior has a very liberal transfer policy. You should be able to transfer most, if not all of your coures from your AS and DeVry to a BA or BS program.

Attending Excelsior is a very cost effective way to obtain your degree. The enrollment fee is $995 (less if you are current or former military). The graduation fee is $495. If you take more than one year to complete your BA, then you'll need to pay an additional $440 re-enrollment fee. CLEP exams in my area cost about $65 each. You may start taking CLEP and DANTES exams before enrolling with Excelsior. If you go this route, be sure to have a look at the degree plans available on the Excelsior site (request a free account and then have a look at the "Publications" section of the site).

Other options include Charter Oak State College and Thomas Edison State College. Charter Oak is a fine option, just keep in mind that they do not currently offer majors. Thomas Edison is an option as well, however, I would recommend against enrolling in this school right now, as their future is currently in a state of flux, as there is a strong likelihood of Rutgers absorbing TESC as a result of a state-wide budget crisis in NJ.

    Best of luck,

Peru State College is another great option. I completed a 2nd BS in accounting through PSC for about $5,000 total.

I enjoy how quickly I have gotten a response! I plan on getting my major in the generic Business Administration or something of the like. I am currently enrolled in the Technical Management program at DeVry. I recently got married and my biggest concern is cost effectiveness of DeVry. They were already pretty expensive and now they are going to raise the rates.

Dakota State University have very good and affordable programs.

American Public University is another cheap option

TUI University also is another option.

I graduated from DeVry's Technical Management program in 2004 from the Chicago's campus, and yes, it has become a very expensive institution for some of us. I recently finished TUI master's in Information Technology and the program was all about writing. If you pick TUI, be ready to write alot of research papers. Goodluck!
