    "Mr. Migara,
As far tell, IUBL will be accepted as a degree going into our Masters program. However, in order to proceed with the next step, I need for you to send me your degree or a letter of degree completion.

Also, there is an essay requirement that you must fulfill. The topic for the essay is “What Does Success Mean to Me”. The essay should be no more than 2 pages in length.

The sooner we get these in, the sooner we get you enrolled. If you enroll with University of Atlanta before March 31st, 2010, you will be eligible for the promotion.

    Current Promotion:
Your initial enrollment fee will be reduced from $500 to $400 and every month after that you will pay only $400 monthly until you are done with your studies. This means that if you take only 12 months (which is the average) to complete your studies you tuition will be only $4800! Normally the full tuition is $10,800! We will waive the remaining tuition once you have completed! This is a great opportunity to earn your degree and save some money! In order to take part in this promotion, you must set up auto-payments via a credit card/debit card/pre-paid VISA card"

I think i will grap this with Both Hands open as I am keen on there MSc in Finance and Cost US$4800.00..

    Any feedback: pros and Cons?

    Thanks

    Migara

I'm just curious. Less than a year ago you were asking about IUBL http://www.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=31877

Now it appears you have a degree from IUBL. How did you earn it so fast? (Or am I complety misreading tour post?)

    Thanks.

    Pros = affordable tuition

    Cons = not RA accredited

Oh, also, the University of Atlanta (formerly Barrington University) was successfully sued for fraud by the state of Vermont. It's DETC accredited but it doesn't have a great history.

    Ian,
I am not finished my Program from IUBL. I will be done in May 2010. I only had to complete 6 units and 5 of those are done. IUBL granted credits from my Massey Uni degree for the rest.

Seems they're awfully eager for you to start and get you hook onboard. You have one day to make up your mind for the "promotion" and they want an auto-debit from a credit card?

Would make me a little hesitant...

I wonder how bad the essay would have to be in order for U of A to reject an applicant! :)

They do sound extremely pushy. I would tread with caution here.

Migara, IUBL doesn't have any email contact information on their new website. Would you please like to share the email address of their admission office ?

I think I will Do a MSc in Finance at University of Atlana and MSc in Public Accounting at Mercy College (https://www.mercy.edu) after May/June of This year.
I do like the cost of MSc US$4800 is a bargain at Atlanta and Mercy is about US$12000.00 for MSc program.

Can someone explain to me how Univ. of Atlanta can offer an MS in Computer Science, with a curriculum that looks like this, and at the same time require the completion of a 60-80 page thesis?! I commend them for requiring a thesis, however, I do not believe that this curriculum would properly prepare someone to be a Computer Scientist (especially if they do not have a proper background in math, specifically Calculus. U of A doesn't even offer Calculus, yet they have BSCS and MSCS programs.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
Course Number Courses Name Credit Hours
    MIS672 E-Business and E-Commerce Apps 3.0
CS624 Info Systems Analysis and Design 3.0
CS627 Programming with Visual Basic Net 3.0
    CS635 Operating Systems 3.0
    MIS660 Software Structures 3.0
    CS654 Enterprise Resource Planning 3.0
BA642 TQM and Operational Management 3.0
    CS613 Computer Graphics 3.0
    CS646 Adv. Database Analysis & Design 3.0

University of Atlanta requires all students to complete Field Work Experience and a Thesis as part of degree program requirements. Students must work with the Faculty Mentor to develop an appropriate project/ topic and apply the skills they have learned in other courses to situations they face in their daily life.

Course Number Course Name Credit Hours
    BA700 Topics - Research Proposal 3.0
    BA715 Field Work Experience 3.0
    BA725 Thesis - Area of Concentration 3.0

    TOTAL PROGRAM CREDIT HOURS 36.0

Lots of schools are offering CS degrees now that are really more like MIS or CIS degrees. No calculus required.

Really? Which ones? And do they require a BSCS or just some prereqs?

    Thanks!

I guess I should clarify my statement. If you want a real MSCS degree, then you will need calculus and most likely a BSCS or at least strong knowledge in various CS topics such as compilers, etc. If you want a MSCS that is more like an MIS/CIS degree, you can find those too but they really aren't true MSCS degrees despite their name.

As a former student of U of A I have to say RUN! RUN RUN RUN.....Those six months of my life feel wasted. It is a self study program and you only pay for the time you’re in the program...but (there's always a but) they will not let you finish early. I finished 5 classes and was half way done with my sixth and was still waiting on grades from the first class I took. Me and my wife figure with the wait time on grades it would take my about six years to finish. Any who, their program was some of the worst crap I have ever seen. There are no test, only papers, and a ton of them. There syllabus is full of errors and is very confusing. Now the good side to all this is, oh wait there was none. You are not allowed to speak to any instructiors,,,your papers come back Dr.O or Dr. P on them. Heck my ''Student Mentor" had a degree from Barrington U as well as a masters from them. That was one F'd up place......I filed a complaint with the DETC and the DoE.

The only DETC school worth any thing is PF, you can at least use those credits at TESC or EC.
