Hey my fellow degreeinfo posters, I haven't posted very much from my time here but I am happy to report after 4.5 years I have finished my Bachelors from Excelsior! It has been a long journey but totally worth it and I owe much of my success to many of you here! I attended Peru State for almost all of my classes for the degree, and I had hoped to graduate from there, but due to internship requirements I just couldn't work around, I found myself glad to know about Excelsior. If it wasn't for this board or Bear's Guide I would not be typing this post! I also received my Associates from Ashworth this week as well as I completed it over a year ago but I just paid it off last month. Needless to say this has been a very good week for me !! It has taken almost 12 years of starts and stops to get my Bachelors, but I did it! Thank you to everyone here who posts on distance learning it has helped me immensely in my learning endeavors. I hope everyone is as lucky as me to be able to see how much great information is on this site, learn from it, and use it to their advantage. Thank you again everyone, have a great weekend!

    Justin

P.S. - For those who are wondering, I start my MBA at APUS on April 5th and I am planning on taking the Accounting Certificate from LSU so that I can be able to sit for the CPA exam in either NH or MA. After all that is said an done , maybe take a shot at law school (dreaming... ;)) .... Thanks again guys and gals!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! I hope APUS is as seemless as it has been through the admissions and financial aid process. I have heard some good things about this school on the board so I think I made the right choice. I hope they get the ACBSP accreditation soon, I am not sure when the word comes down for that though.

My experience at Ashworth was good! When I started the Associates program back in 2004 and they were just starting to convert everything over to being online so I had the option of doing everything strictly still by correspondence. I think just about all of it is online now as they have improved by leaps and bounds since then. The classes are all self paced with no deadlines except for a maximum time limit for the level of program that you are in, i.e. - if you are in an Associates program you have a max of 4 years to finish everything, and it goes up for the bachelors programs they have. The structure of the classes are basically they send you a text with an accompanying workbook which contains the chapter outlines, sample review questions with answers, and your lesson quizzes. These quizzes usually consist of 3 - 4 chapters of reading and then are 20 multiple choice questions which you can take online. After you finish the course, you move on to the next until you have completed 5 courses and then you have a cumulative semester exam which has to be proctored. It usually consists of 50 questions and you have a 3 hour time limit to finish. They are not that hard although there are some tricky questions. You have to receive at least a 60 on the semester exam to move on to the next semester. I really enjoyed the classwork as when I started I had dropped out of college almost 7 years earlier for personal reasons. The low stress of having no deadlines was just what I needed to ease myself back into the school mindset. The only thing which you ever hear bad about Ashworth is the customer service. When I started they were notorius for making you hold sometimes for over an hour on the phone without picking up. This has changed though and as of late the longest I have been on hold is usually 10 min or so. You can also email them now and they will usually get back to you within a day. This was not available when I started either. They also have a discussion forum set up now which seems to get a great deal of traffic. This makes any questions easier to address because like this board, if you search there first you may find your answer. Overall I never had a problem with the school. I hope this answers any of your questions. Thanks for the congrats!
