I was wondering if anyone here has experience with UWF online particularly there MSCS-SE program. the Software engineering aspects of the program really interests me, I've searched through the forums and there seems to be a limited amount of information on the school or the program and how well it is regarded compared to places like Regis University or Columbus State University or other MSCS or MSSE programs.:)

UWF is a B&M state school. You cannot go wrong there compared to "online only" shops.

  3. If you are talking about Columbus State University in Columbus, GA, then I recommend UWF. CSU is a B&M state school as well, but UWF will probably give you bigger name recognition, if that matters.

Thanks for the reply. Do you or anyone knows how UWF compares to Regis University. UWF is $350 a credit cheaper do to their tuition waiver program. I just want to make sure if I get accepted and do go to UWF I am not missing out on anything, Regis does have a little bit greater variety of coursework, but software engineering wise they seem pretty similar, and I could find those certifications elsewhere if i really wanted them. Thanks in advance.

Why do you consider that the University of West Florida would have any more name recognition than Columbus State University … both B&M NCAA Div. II schools? Neither have very long traditions; CSU started in 1958 and UWF enrolled its first class in 1967. UWF does have a larger enrollment (11,200) compared to CSU (8,100). No offense intended toward either university, but neither seemingly has any significant name recognition. :D

BTW, my cousin received his JD from Cooley.

I think CSU would have slightly better name recognition, at least in some circles. First, it's everywhere in Columbus Georgia, which is next to Ft. Benning, the home of the infantry. It's also the host of the Command College, which awards master's degrees and certificates to law enforcement people throughout the south. I would guess that most police officers in the southeast would immediately recognize the Command College as part of Columbus State.

But CSU would likely have no more significant name recognition outside GA (Columbus) than UWF would in its own backyard.

Ah yes … Ft. Benning. My younger brother was an 11B and was stationed at Benning.

  8. As Major56 stated "neither have significant name recognition." I lived in Columbus, GA for 18 years. In Columbus and around the regional area (at best), CSU is very well known. It has grown a TON in the last 5 years since I left and has great programs. Both have name recognition in some circles, but the "circles" that UWF I think are bigger. The main reason why people know of Columbus (outside those that are from around the area) is due to Fort Benning so in military circles it's probably much stronger then UWF. Other than that, I don't really see how CSU is better than UWF.

BTW, tell your cousin I said congratulations of completing such a long journey.

Will do… I believe he finished his J.D. in 2004 or 2005. He currently practices in Huntsville, TX while ranching too. BTW, he told me that the Texas Bar exam was a tough one; quite a bit of Texas oil, gas and mineral law questions. Since graduating, he's also taken and passed the Connecticut and Mississippi Bar exams.

  10. Wow. That’s impressive to have 3 bars under his belt. I'm hoping to have two under my belt (Georgia and DC). I hope practice is going well for him If he has any advice then please to hesitate to pass it along.

I believe he likes ranching better; a cowboy. :D

For now his lawyer focus is on family law.
