    yay, I can sleep now.

Edowave, how long did it take, start to finish, to complete your dissertation? A year? More?

Wonderful! Now deal with the dean's office--getting your dissertation into its final form--and off you go!

    Congratulations, doctor.

Kinda hard to say really. After I passed my quals, I did the one thing everyone told me not to do: I started a full-time job. I figured I could finish the dissertation during my "free time", but my job didn't really leave me any. Then I got engaged and moved to New Jersey.

In the end it took me about 3 years to do the dissertation. Looking back I can't believe how fast the time flew by. It really shouldn't have taken no longer than a year. I credit the wonderful members on this board for keeping me going. Reading everyone's success stories is what pushed me to "get it done."

As for the "what's next" question, right now I'm now dealing with wedding planning. After that settles down, I wouldn't mind teaching an online course or two. (to pay for said wedding.)

The real question is, who's next to join the PhD club?

So double congrats are in order. One for the doctorate and one for the upcoming wedding. Thanks for the info.

What a fine thing you have done, Ed. Sincere congratulations.

Permit me to remind people that you are also an alumnus of the Heriot-Watt MBA program (part online, part on campus) . . . and also a survivor, as it were, of alt.education .distance.

(Just for the heck of it, I just had a look at alt.education .distance. I guess user groups never die, unless the founder cancels them. So there are 29,360 messages, none relating to distance education for years . . . and Rita Laws' FAQs haven't been updated since 2003. Wonder what name the truly evil "Factwatcher" is using now.)
